Back to work?

I had my TAH/BSO on October 2nd. I am not scheduled to resume work until the week of Thanksgiving. I am considering asking my doc if I can go back half days the week of Nov. 11th. Was just wndering if I would be pushing things too early...

Hi Misty! Your doctor best knows your circumstances and should be able to tell you if you are able to go back a little early to half days. You will get to feeling better as time progresses, but it is important to remember that when you get to feeling good, your body will still need healing time, so just be sure not to over-do it! Make sure that when you do go back to get lots of rest and take it easy at home. Good luck and be well!!

I would suggest not telling your employer that you will be back earlier -- even at half days -- just in case GOD FORBID you have any complications and need the 6 - 8 ( or more) weeks to heal.


It is always easier to go back to your employer and tell them that since you feel so good because of the surgery -- that you would like to come back early but only work half days -- AFTER getting it cleared by your doctor.


I know I COULD have went back sooner
( my checkbooks says i SHOULD have)
but was glad I had the whole time to recover.

Thank you for the advice. As far as work goes, I will not be back until Nov. 19th. I have not mentioned wanting to come back early. I think finances are driving this urge to want to go back early. I will not get paid for my last week of recovery time(( Eventhough I feel good, 4 weeks out, I know in my heart I should take the full time to recover. Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Misty - My recovery has really gone well and I thought I was ready to go back earlier too. I'm glad now that I put it off until going back part-time after six weeks. I was exhausted every day and my belly was really sore and swollen most days. I work in an office so I'm not heavy lifting, etc. This is my first week back full time and I am yawning as I type! Somehow as women we do what we've got to do but take the extra time if you can possibly swing it.

Agreed, you only have one chance to heal properly.

I went back to work today. It has been 5 weeks since surgery. I worked 5 hours. Really not bad at all, although I came home and immediately slipped into sweat pants and had to lay down. I am still tired. But I got through it. Slowly returning to normal I believe.
