Having a total Hysterectomy..and I am scared

Hi! My name is LuAnne and I am having a total hysterectomy on July 11. My surgeon is going to try to do the procedure using the Laproscope method. Has anyone else out there had their Hysterectomy done with this procedure? I would love to hear from you!!! I am also scared because I am overweight and that bothers me. I have a significantly enlarged uterus and fibroids. Also, the uterine lining is thickened as well. I am new to this site and am so glad that it is here and available!!! Thank you for listening!!! I didn't have a Lap Hysterectomy, but lots of women have, and lots are overweight and can give you some tips and support.

I didn't have a LAVH but, I'm sure there will be plenty after me to post their experiences. Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns?

I had a TAH/BSO. so I can not tell you about the Lap procedure.But I am sure that someone will be along who did have that procedure and will be able to help you.

But I can tell you that I am overweight also. I recovered very nicely. You may want to take a look at the tread entitled Large Lovely Diva Issues in the preop message board.

I had a lap exploratory to find out what was wrong with me and I too am overweight. I know the lap hyster is much more in depth but I had no problems. I was under general anastesia as well. Keep reading and researching on this site and you will find your answer.

Hi Luanne,

I did have my surgery laparascopically(sp) for fibroids and adenomyosis. I feel that I was able to recover more quickly using this method than the traditional abdominal. My doctor assured me that with the scope she would still be able to look around for any endo and to examine the ovaries(which were good so I kept them). This is the advantage over simple vaginal hysterectomy. I have compared my recovery to others who experienced abdominal hysterectomy and feel that I was about two weeks faster. There is a lot of info on this website so don't be afraid to take advantage of it. This really is the best place to be.
