Missing Ovary

Hi all I am new here so thank youall for your support in advance. I was hoping i could find some advice with whats been hapening. Long story short full hyst feb 08 left ovaries in, 18 months post surgury severe abdominal pain, TV showed complex cyst, 6 week follow up on cyst US and TV showed new 18mm presumed collapsing folilcle, previous mass assumed haemorhagic cyst resolved. Theleft ovary couldnt been seen.
My question is where is the ovary, should i follow up or assume all is well, just a bit confused and really tired after waiting, scans and ops. Anyone had similar expereince
Thanks again

Re: Missing Ovary

I have no experience...just guessing...that the cyst might be in front of the ovary blocking the view?? Wait a minute...the cyst was gone??? and still couldn't see?? I would ask for more ultrasounds or something. Good luck!!

Re: Missing Ovary

It really is not all that uncommon for an ovary to not be seen in an ultrasound. For that matter, it isn't all that uncommon for a lot of things to not be seen! Part of the issue is the test itself and part of it is if the ovary is hiding behind some other organ since the ovaries can move around a bit.

I would talk to your doctor about your concerns and see what s/he has to say. There may be some very plausible explanations for waiting or perusing other testing such as a CT scan.

I am glad your hemorrhagic cyst resolved and I hope all of your pain did as well!

Re: Missing Ovary

Hi There, thankyou for your replies. I think i might request another scan just to be sure. I wasnt overly happy with the radiologist in any case, sometimes they seem a bit rude, quick to get the scan over and done with, and pretty much dont speak the whole time. I was a bit neervouse about this scan as it was the follow up to my complex mass, I am thinking its all fine but now with the other ovary not showing up I thought i would ask here as so many others have prob experienced similar and i could find out what they did. The support here is great , thank you again

Re: Missing Ovary

I was told at my vaginal ultrasound for a left ovarian cyst a few weeks ago, that she couldn't find my right ovary at the time and that was a good thing because it meant it was fine.
