Injury from Hysterectomy

I had a Laproscopic assisted hysterectomy in march and my doctor explained that during the surgery when the nurse was removing the retractor that they tore my labia the tear is an inch and a half long and still hasn't healed right. My doctor told me that it may be permanently damaged and that i will probably have pain during sex for the rest of my life unless i use a special cream to numb the pain. He also explained that this injury is very common but i haven't heard of many people having this same problem. Can anyone here relate or give me some advice. All advice is welcome.

Thank You

Re: Injury from Hysterectomy

I don't really know, but I haven't heard of it before and I would hate to think it was common. It sounds careless to me and I'm rather upset on your behalf.

Re: Injury from Hysterectomy

I've never heard of this either and like iamjan think it sound rather careless.

You now there will be risks to the surgery but there should not be a risk for the "nurse" removing the equipment used to aid access.

Good luck to you hunny.

Re: Injury from Hysterectomy

I have not heard this and would seek a second opinion.

That answer is not acceptable IMO.

Re: Injury from Hysterectomy

I am so sorry this happened to you, it sounds careless. Definitely go for a second opinion for treatment. That dr's information is not acceptable in any way. Praying you get treatment for healing.

Re: Injury from Hysterectomy

Definitely, definitely go for a second opinion. It's highly unlikely that this damage is permanent; think about it....women get labial tears all the time from childbirth, and go on to receive good repairs, free from pain. They also receive labial plastic surgery (I think this is terrible, but to each her own), and they do just fine. I really do think you can be fixed. Also, check your consent form. Is "labial tearing" listed as a possible complication? I don't remember that from mine at all. Praying for your healing.
