what is mason stamey?????

welp, everyone was right there was nothing to my pre-op testing. all they did was do a medical hystery (hee hee) and check my reflexes and blood pressure. there was a fax from the doctor that should've said if he wanted blood work and such done but the nurse couldn't read if anything was marked. nothing else was done.

ontop of one of the papers i was to sign was the orders for my sugery...TVH with anterior and posterior repair and possible mason stamey. what the heck is mason stamey. my doctor never said anything of the such and none of the nurses knew what it was. i didn't sign anything. i tried to check it out on the search engine but only came up with dead people with the same name.

any one out there know what mason stamey is????

what is mason stamey?????

((((Ringfinger))),

I tried dictionary.com and obgyn.com neither had a Mason Stamey.

Maybe it is something else, and since your Dr.s handwriting is so bad you can't read it?

I am stumped , I hope somebody comes along with the answer.

Best wishes,

Pamcat

Just a partial guess here, but if you take part of the first word and link it with the second you get........stomy? Sounds like a distortion of some medical term. I dunno...any expert crossword puzzle people here? I know that a stoma refers to a hole in something. Hmmm.. it took my doctor several tries to teach me how to spell Burch urethropexy....

I haven't heard it referred to as a "Mason" Stamey, but a Stamey is a type of bladder suspension. If your doctor did not talk to you about this then you were right not to sign the consent...it is supposed to be an "informed" consent. Call your doctor and quesstion him about this if he didn't talk to you about a bladder suspension or tuck.

what is mason stamey?????

thank you StampinCat, i finally found late last night on the net but didn't like what i read. i found studies that weren't so favorable. why would he want to do this if the outcome isn't good?? inone study it showed only 35% were continent after 6 years! plus there was a report of 20% having worse sexual functions! i'm going to do more researching and find more studies before i make up my mind. i wonder if there is something else he could do instead. anyhow thank you for your responses!!

There are other methods, a Burch, MMK (Marshall Marchetti Krantz), sling urethroplexy. You might do a search on those too. Did you have a second opinion with a urologist or urogynecologist? I guess the best thing to do is to ask him why this method for you and let him know you researched it and what you found.
