I need to whine!
Hey girls! I am so upset right now, I just need to vent.
I interviewed for a new job and was hired on December 10th to start on Jan. 2nd. In that time I found out I had to have the hysterectomy and had to move back my starting date. First I thought I would have a vaginal hysterectomy and moved the starting date to the end of January. I ended up having an abdominal hysterctomy and moved the starting date to the end of February.
Well, yesterday was my first day. I was so excited to work and wanted to make a good impression after all this had gone on. I felt fine all day yesterday and even at the end of the day had enough energy to load and unload the dishwasher. But....
I began having some pain in my lower abdomen and had to go to the bathroom every two seconds... soon it was horrible and I went to the emergency room. It was a urinary tract infection.
This hurt ten times worse than the hysterctomy. I was doubled over in pain and it would not stop. The doctor prescribed vicodin.... I have a high threshold for pain and did not take narcotics after I left the hospital for the hyst, but this was so bad I could not wait to take the vicodin. I had to wait until I got home to take it because I drove myself. I asked the doctor if I would be able to get up and go to work after taking the vicodin. He looked at me funny and said "If you are in enough pain to take vicodin you shouldn't go to work anyway".
So, of course he's right!
So now, I have to tell my boss that I can't come to work today. The second day of work!!! He is going to think I am such a flake. I hate this, I feel irresponsible and unprofessional. I know there's nothing I can do but, what timing!!!!
Thanks for letting me vent girls!.... it seems like it's always something....

I need to whine!
Anonyaa: I have had bladder problems for 3 years now and I understand your pain! I was finally diagnosed with Interstilia Cystitis of the Bladder and to control pain I have been taking Vicodin as needed, for three years now. My bladder pain got worst around my menstrual cycle, so I am looking forward to seeing how the pain is now that I will not have a menstrual cycle. Hang in there!

Don't worry about your boss... Trust me when I say this is not the first time something like this has happened to him! You're sick -- take care of yourself.
I hope you're feeling better and the antibiotics kick in real soon.

I need to whine!
Whine all you want! We'll listen! Don't worry about your boss. Your health is more important and hopefully he will understand that. I used to get uti's all the time and about 8 or 9 years ago they stopped. I think the last one I had was while I was pregnant over 3 years ago and I didn't even know I had that one.

I need to whine!
I just spoke to my boss and while he said he understood and did not say anything bad his tone of voice was dissapointed.. or maybe frustrated. Not that I blame him but ... I just hate this.

I need to whine!
Hi Anonyaa,
Sometimes I think we hear what we expect to hear in other's voices/reactions. I know I do! Maybe your boss wasn't conveying any message other than what he said, but since you FEEL guilty...
In any event, you are only doing what you have to do. Take care of yourself!

I need to whine!
Anonyaa,
I'm so sorry you're in so much pain!! Whine all you want!!!!
A friend said something to me once- and as simple as it sounds, it has been really helpful to me.. and that is that "some things just ARE".
Meaning, all the guilt, frustration, fear, desire, anxiety, etc that we all feel in any given situation is normal.. but it doesn't change things that ARE.
you've just had *MAJOR* surgery, and on top of recovering from that physically and emotionally, you now have to deal with a UTI!! OUCH. You have to stay home until you're better. That just IS.
Your boss very well may be annoyed. Again- that just IS. You can't change any of that by feeling badly about it. I am sure you'll still be upset about it, I know I would be too. But try to keep in mind that you can't change it. It's only a few days until the antibiotics kick and you'll feel better. If in those few days your boss has to fill the position with someone else~ another job will come along. The utmost important thing is your health!!! Everything else will work out if you trust that it will.
All the very best to you and I really hope you feel better and are bacak to work in no time....

I need to whine!
Whine Away!
If your new boss has been a boss for any amount of time at all he has seen this before. Especially if he manages a bunch of women. I used to work in a bank and nothing freaks out a male boss more than female problems. We always heard. Oh no! Go Home! Take all the time you need. As long as they didnt have to hear any details, they were fine. Relax. Get Well.
