4th day post op

Hi all ! ... I had a vaginal hyst with pelvic prolapse repair on tues (22nd may 2012.) I'm still in pain but I am keeping it under control with tramadol and diclofenic .. I just wanted to ask if anyone else found it upsetting to have been discharged not even a 48hrs after this heavy surgery ? And does anybody else find themselves disorientated and very weak ? And how long do I continue with the laxatives ? Thankyou any advice would be soooo appreciated

Re: 4th day post op

Hi Kathy. I am one week post op and now have come out of the fog. I was very weak and totally disorientated. I couldnt walk straight down the hallway to save my life. Yesterday and today were days that I felt totally normal again. I do still need the laxatives tho...havent gone without using them yet.

Hope this helps...

Re: 4th day post op

I suddenly realize why the nurses were so shocked at the speed of my recovery... After the Toradol ran it's course I was walking straight and pulling myself up without needing help most of the time. The worst thing I've done sense release was that I pulled too much on the tape strips after they took my staples. That little metal backbone may have looked awful, but it was alot of support that I was not prepared to lose that quickly.

I've had some lightheadness when I stand quickly, but most of that eased when I got fully rehyrated. Make sure you're getting enough fluids, me sport's drinks help alot. I'm using Gatorade G2 when I feel like I'm getting weak. You may not do so well with such a thing, but for me they help alot anytime I've been very physically spent. Also keeping a stable blood suger and trying to get extra sleep will help all around.

I can't speak on the prolapse, but generally find a position that you've either been instructed to use or one that doesn't cause any unusal pain. Stay like that as often as possible, and let friends or family wait on you. I know that's hard, terribly hard if you're used to being a doer of things, but you really must. That's how I got mine pulled a bit apart my first day home. I kept trying to do things for myself.

Also always try to either have help or get up by rolling to a side first. Any strain on the middle muscles can pull even if you're not cut like I was. The remaining connective tissue doesn't care how they went in as much as that they did it overall, so avoid stressing it as much as possible.
