Confused, scared about choosing the right doc

Hi all,
I keep going back and forth wondering if I've chosen the right doctor to do my hyster. I've gotten a second opinion from a very nice doctor who I felt was very conservative and cautious. I liked the office staff too. However, she says she's only done about 300 da Vinci surgeries. As for my first opinion doc, she says she's done thousands. I've been going to her practice (although seeing a variety of different doctors there over the years due to retirements) for probably over 10 years. They know me well and know my history. And I like the doctor who'd be doing my surgery. Only thing that troubles me is the nurse assistants. They always seem in a hurry and like I'm an inconvenience. They talk so fast, and I never feel like I get all of my questions answered. In that office, I feel like I'm a number, not a person. It's like going to the DMV!

So, any sisters have advice on which doc I should go with to do my surgery? There are pluses and minuses to both, but I want to be sure I'm getting the best care possible. They better not screw this up!

My opinion? I would not select my surgeon based on nurses assistants, chances are you may not even need to talk to them. I didn't.

Re: Confused, scared about choosing the right doc

I get that. I can message my dr through an app/website, and I feel like when I talk to the Dr, I get answers. When I talk to the Nurses, things get a little screwy.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't believe the NA's play a part in the actual surgery, and if you are having any questions/issues they cannot answer before/after, put your foot down and ask to speak to the Dr.

Re: Confused, scared about choosing the right doc

Thank you, at least it's not just this particular office where they act like that! My regular OB/GYN (same practice, as the doc who'd be doing my surgery and who initially diagnosed my fibroids) has a particularly *****y NA who seems very annoyed and put out when I ask her questions. Unfortunately, at least with the first doc, I find myself leaving voicemails for the NA instead of communicating directly with the doctor. Maybe that's just how they do it these days.

Confused, scared about choosing the right doc

My gyn (who I've had for 10+ years) who diagnosed my endo, adeno, fibroids, and ovarian cysts left me high and dry to find my own gyn/onc surgeon

My gyn wanted to refer me to a gyn/onc in Fairfax, VA but her staff didn't want to deal with my insurance to get approval for me to go there. I was told by her nurse "we do not have time to sit on the phone with your insurance company. Unless we can just fax them what they need you'll have to find a doc in WV that
will work with your insurance. "

Are you kidding me! ! So I got online and researched and found my gyn/onc. I had to travel 2.5 hours from my home to Morgantown, WV for my procedure but my gyn/onc has been great. He had several positive reviews online which helped me pick him.

Not only did I find my own surgeon but I've also found another local gyn to take over my care. My new gyn was shocked that I was left to find my own surgeon because my previous gyn's staff "didn't have time for me. " I hope this isn't the way the medical profession is heading.
