16 hours to go. I am a mess and have some questions please...
Hello sisters...
Well tomorrow is the big day. I have to be at the hospital at noon for a 2:30 surgery.
I have been on clear liquids all day and in a few minutes I have to drink my GALLON of yucky stuff to clean me out. Did any of you have to do this prep?? How long does it take for this stuff to kick in??
I am such a mess here. I am worried about my sweet 12 year old son. Will he be ok?? What will they find when they open me up tomorrow?? The recovery?? I can't take hormones for 6 weeks, will I be a freak?? WOW, it is all creeping up on me.. Do you actually sleep the night before?? I can't even imagine it...
Thanks for letting me vent. You are all terrific!!
Love, Donna

Hang in there!!! It's almost over. I have four weeks to go and I'm having a VERY anxious and stressed out day, so I can only imagine what you are feeling. Your son will be fine...he's big enough to understand and will make you smile. Just keep breathing and think ahead to waking up and having it all behind you. We're all pulling for you, and thinking good strong thoughts for you!!!! Breathe!

16 hours to go. I am a mess and have some questions please...
Donna, the waiting is the worst part. I did the clear liquids and a fizzy lax. Going to the bathroom so much was not pleasant. My Drs. thought my tumors were cancer so I had a gyn oncologist do my surgery so I was scared going in but I knew I would be ok. The first thing I heard in recovery was no cancer! Huge firbroids (one over 8 lbs.) My recover went fine, especially since I live alone and was by myself for most of my recovery. It is major surgery and will take time. Be positive and take your time getting better. You will be glad to have your son there to help out, let him! I will be thinking about you and that everything goes well. I even miss those days of setting at home taking it easy while I healed.

Relax, your son will do just fine. My son is four and this is the first time I've really been away from him before. This surgery is something that you need to do and your family will do just fine. Things will go better then you think. I am almost three weeek post-op and there is very little I can't do. I've also survived my son and I having the flu for the last 8 days. See ya' later on the other side of the message board.
My prayers are with you and your family

16 hours to go. I am a mess and have some questions please...
Hi Donna,
I just had the surgery last Monday. My doctor told me not
to eat or drink after Midnight. I did somehow fall asleep.
I was so scared that I canceled the surgery 3 times and try
all kind of medicine that made my condition worse. I am
33 years old and wasn't ready for this. I have one daughter
who is 9 years old. She came in the very day to visit me and
said mom you don't look like you had surgery.
I did not know about this web site till
today, it would have helped me alot with the questions I had.
Well Monday morning I went in. By 10:00 I was in my hospital bed. Other friends who had it told me all sorts
of horror stories. I was also told that if you had pain
you push the button and it away. I am in my room and my
nurse is there I ask her "where is the button for pain"
She says you have the only doctor that doesn't believe in
that and her patients go home the fastest. They give me
2 pills for the pain every 4 hours. Well that night I went to the bathroom all by myself!!! I had hardly any pain. The next morning my doctor comes in and says "you don't even look like you had surgery, I hear you ate and been going to the bathroom by yourself." You can go home if you want.
I got up by myself and had family pick me up the very next
morning. Friends and family could not believe I had surgery. I even ask my husband "Are you sure they took it
out?" I have one stitch on my belly button. I have not
felt this good in ages. I was able to keep one ovary.
The only problem I am having, is I feel so good it is
hard to stay in bed.
Please don't be scared like I was, for weeks before the
surgery I was so nervous and scared from what others told
me. I don't know if I am a rare but I was in more pain
after I had my daughter then now. My menstrul cramping was
worse then this. It so nice to have the back pain gone and
all the other symptons I had. I had a wonderful doctor.
I wish you all the best tomorrow.

Same surgery....praying for you
Hi Sunnyda1, Rather than rewrite everything please go to Leigh Leigh and read my post to her. Also, read my testimonial at that site. I guarantee that the waiting is the hardest. No, I didn't have any of the prep stuff. I lucked out and had no problem restarting after surgery. I have Fibromyalgia and don't sleep well anyway but the night before wasn't any worse, thank God. I had to be at the hospital at 6:30 am. I just stop and thank the Lord that I was able to have the surgery and get all that mess out of my body. Trust Him, He will see you through. Love and prayers.....and yes,let your son help you. It will help him too.

It'll be OK
All normal questions to be asking Donna. It wouldn't help for me to say relax because I know 9 out of 10, you won't be sleeping tonite. Your son will be fine. Recovery isn't boilerplate. It's more like cafeteria style. Some recover faster than others. It's individual. My hospital roomie who had the same surgery the same day was able to to do twice as much as I was able to and was discharged 2 days sooner. Don't rush it. You'll need the pillow time and we'll help prop you up. The necessities will get done. You will find what you can't do with your body, you can get done with your brain, i.e., whining, politely pleading and just by looking pale and needy. This is the time to call on friends and other family members.
Tomorrow you'll have your lusterous new crown and you'll be thinking of nothing but sleeping, drinking and more sleeping. It'll be over just like that.
You're in the collective prayers of the Sisters and in our thoughts. Let us know how you make out when you feel up to putting a few words on the board. I've been pretty hit and miss up to now as far as posting because it's been hard to sit for a long stretch.
Hugs and more Hugs,

HONEST, you will be surprised
Just got home today from TAH/BSO with a little extra long incision and removal of part of my omentum. I did bowel prep the night before - fortunately not that gallon of crap. You probably don't have to really finish all of that. When your bowels are running clear you're OK. I know it's awful, I've done that one before. Your bum might be sore, but that will clear up soon.
I had a myriad of comical errors that could have been upsetting but weren't. I was calm going in and healed quickly. I can tell you for sure that there is no reason to panic. You will wake up and deal with the aftermath of what you have been waiting to have done. You may be up walking the next morning or you may take a few days. You may be taking powerful drugs or you may not. Whatever you and your doctor decide, you can manage quite well, believe me. It's natural to feel some anxiety but yes, it is possible to sleep tonight.
A lot has changed in the surgery arena in the past few years, and this surgery is no longer the way it used to be, so the horror stories aren't relevant. It IS major surgery, but you will be totally amazed at how each day brings dramatic improvment in the beginning. I am sore, yes. But I choose not to take the big drugs. Didn't at all. I was more uncomfortable than the doctors were comfortable with but it was quite tolerable for me. My family helped me breath and relax. My spirit was strong and I am safe at home.
You hang in and don't let this get to ya. You will be FINE. Honest.

Quieting thoughts
I read your post, and realized that that is probably what I will be like the night before my surgery! Too much running through the brain at once, and anxiety keeping one awake. When I get going a million miles an hour, it doesn't usually help to be told to 'calm down' - but it is important to remember that you CAN quiet your thoughts by doing some relaxation. Even freeing yourself of worry for a short time may be enough to help you drift off to sleep.
Wishing you a peaceful sleep, and safe surgery. All the best on your big day.
Beth
