Questions

Hi,

Ive been here for about a week or so reading, making posts here and there and i wanted to say its a great site...

My DH is worried and isnt much help during this pre-op period, my mother had a TAH/BSO about 20 yrs ago she's not much help as far as information since things were different back then.

well let me tell u a little bit about myself before i post a few questions....

I am 33 yrs old from NJ i have 3 children, I had a laproscopic tubal ligation 5 hours after my 3rd child in 1995.....

my period after that were extremely painful, and i bled for a full 7 days, heavily too

in Aug 2000 i had my first Diagnostic Laproscopic Surgery which the gyn found "some endometriosis", an ovarian cyst that ruptured and hemmoraged, adhesions and scar tissue......

I had my second DLS Aug 2002 for endometriosis, and the gyn found i had a tumor on my right ovary, it turned out to be a borderline malignancy, and he removed half my right ovary at the time of that surgery

since then i have seen an oncologist and my gyn again and its been decided for me to have a TAH/BSO and im scheduled for
Oct 22nd ( happy birthday to me huh LOL )

My gyn told me after 2 weeks i should be back to my normal routine (without pushing it of course, he said) driving, walking, getting better, etc.

I already know i'll be getting general anesthesia, and a morphine drip after words

my question is and maybe it doesnt belong in this section but i thank u all for listening and having a place to post at all to let out my anxieties.

when my mother had her TAH/BSO she was never given an HRT, my dr hasnt mentioned it either, (im going to ask) is it something im really going to need? are my hormones going to be that out of whack afterwords?

its really scary and the wait is the worst.

I like the idea of general anesthesia, but is there any suggestions i can do for when im in the recovery room, while im coming out of it? the shakes, etc?

Also, Is there any suggestions to making the wait easier?

Questions

Hi Ksses,

Welcome and I am glad you found the site!!

You may want to read a few sites: - Hormone Jungle Message
Board
- Princess tel hyst-stories
- Endo/Andeno: Stories of
Triumph over pain.
- Post-op site
- Chat Line

Also if you can get DH to read some threads and help him understand what you are going through and for him to know this is Major Surgery.

I had a General and didn't get sick. I had my CD player and CD's to play music while I was under the General, during surgery. I played the music when I woke up and it kept my mind of the Hospital noise and discomfort. The Morphine pump was great and I felt very little pain.

Also go to your profile and add your surgery date in. The Sisters will send you a Get Well Card the day of your surgery.

I hope this helps. Please keep us informed. Take care.

Sending you a great BIG !!!

Questions

HI! As I still have 20 days untill my surg, I know that this waiting time is very hard. But besides reading all the encouraging stories and posts on this wonderful site, and reading all the info there is on the things you have Q's about(lots of info on HRT's, and types of pain meds and anesthesia), use this time to get all the tons of things done and organized before the surg. It will keep you and your mind busy, and help to make things easier for you afterward too. Then, if possible, try to think of the the surg and recovery as a time for you to be a pampered princess.
Even those of us that might not have the best support systems can at least pamper ourselves. How many of us get the opportunity to nap, watch soaps or videos shamelessly, read uninterrupted, or listen to music? Later as you are feeling up to it, you can take nice(short) meditative walks, visit leisurely with friends(in or out), catch up on those(lite) tasks we never find time for...long overdue letters to friends(early xmas cards even!), photo organizing, manicures, facials..or just resting. It is your time, for you!

Good Luck...everyone says the worst time is the waiting before.
