7 days until surgery

Its not enough to know on Jan 3 that you are being scheduled for a hyst, my surgery date is 3-21. I have had a good amount of time to think, plan, schedule all the time before the surgery. It has now come down to the last 7 days and I am starting to feel anxious. I am not afraid to lose my uterus and cervix, I am not afraid of pain, I am afraid of losing control. I am afraid of not knowing how long I am going to be down. I am alone....My family is not supportive and my husband tries, but he does not understand.
I am having my uterus removed do to uncontrollable bleeding, extreme pain, and bloating to where I look pregnant. I am not a candidate for hormones, they make me bleed more, when I went to the doctors, they had no other options for me.

Hey, I know it's nerve-wracking not knowing what to expect, but you have to remind yourself that what do you know (pain, bleeding, bloating, etc) is not good! You will feel better when this is done.

The waiting and suffering beforehand was horrible, and so was worrying about lack of support. But surgery was not nearly as bad as I'd feared and recovery has been easier, too. I'm 3 weeks post op now, and I am amazed to say I actually feel pretty good.

Anyway, hang in there - and use this forum to vent as much as you need! Will be sending good thoughts your way next week. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Ah yes, the pre-hysterectomy jitters. I'm here to tell you that it is not as bad as my brain told me it could be. The worst part for me was the panic attack I had when the nurse was trying to find a vein in my hand to insert the IV. The hospital stay was wonderful, the pain has been manageable and the post-op (two weeks today) has been a little boring, but OK.

You're going to be just fine.

Thank you so much, I needed to hear that. I want to be on your side, recovery. The scary thing is, I believe in mind over matter and I know from talking to my GYN that my pain will be managed, so really I dont fear that. I am going into this knowing that, I dont know where this feeling is coming from.
Thanks again for being there.

WOW bug2004,

I found out I would be having a hyst on January 3rd as well. I had an exploratory laparascopy on January 3 and woke up to the news that there was so much infection in there that they couldn't do anything until I was on antibiotics for at least 2 weeks. I am now just over 4 weeks post op and everything that you are experiencing is completely normal. I flip-flopped between being relieved that my problems would be over and completely freaking out. The first 4 or 5 days after surgery were the hardest and I was glad that I had help, but it gets easier. There will be some good days and some bad days though. I am so glad I did it, and just can't wait until I am fully healed and rearin' to go!

Good luck to you! Be sure to let us know what you decide and how you are doing, ok?

When I was told that I should have this done, they wanted to do it in Jan or Feb but I said I had to wait until I was done heating my house with wood and shoveling all the snow we will get. I have to do this, honestly there is no one else to do it. Jan and Feb was fine, its been the last 2 weeks.
Good luck to you and your surgery, I hope all goes well.
