Pre-Op appt tomorrow

With post op appt here I feel like its the final countdown. I think I am ready with all questions in hand but I know once I leave I will come up with a dozen more! I know my key fear is the surgical menopause so I am gong to make sure my doc is aware of this and prepares for it. As my thoughts race I can't help the feeling of being incomplete after surgery. No matter how prepared I think I am fear of the unknown creeps in. Time is my enemy now in getting things in order and when I do have time it is the last thing I want to do. I hate the fact that life as I know it will probably be on hold for a little while and hoping it is just a short while. I didn't realize how hectic and wonderfully busy my life was until I had to figure out if I would be able to do the things I take for granted. Prayers are appreciated as I begin the final countdown

Yes, the pre-op appointment can really hammer it home. I remember my pre-op and I thought "Wow, this really is going to happen!"

Know your feelings and fears that you are experiencing are very normal. I am almost 16 months post op and still struggle with feeling less feminine and being empty. Healing from this surgery is a process not only physically, but can also be emotionally. Always know that you are not alone. There is this whole community of women on this site who really understand.

It is hard to let go in your recovery for a while. Just remember what is important is your health. Nothing else matters - not the dust bunnies that will gather by your bed and couch, not the pet hair on the carpet, nor the weeds in the yard. You only get one chance to heal right. Your body trumps everything else, and if you push too hard too soon you will just set yourself back. Get all the help you can get with the necessary household stuff and let the rest go.

I wish you all the best with your surgery and recovery. I found it helpful to have a spiral notebook to write everything down in. Questions, dates, lists, whatever. Post op I used it to keep track of when I took my pain meds. In the front I made a list of all my doctors' phone numbers. This was my way of feeling like I had some control, I guess. Anyway, it was something to focus on. I went to the bookstore and got a pretty notebook, not just a standard school type one. And it had a pocket in the front, very handy for papers.

I am in my 5th post op week and feel really good. But I remember well the waiting time pre op was really hard. Hang in there, you only have about 10 days to go. It will go quickly.

I was a little sad during my pre-op but afterwards felt peace that I was doing what I needed to. Having said that, I can honestly say I'm ready for it. I'm not allowed to take ibuprofen now and Tylenol does NOTHING for female parts pain. Still scared but have faith I'll be ok.
