Bleeding 10 years post op; Maybe diverticulitis, maybe colovaginal fistula
I am also 10 years post hysterectomy and have been getting very sharp intense cramping pains since last June 2011. This has all increased over the past 4 months and now in the last week, the intense pain has happened 5 times and finally had me in emergency on Wednesday. Drs took blood & urine tests that came back normal so sent me home with Tylenol 3s for pain and said to see my Dr. Got home from emerg and within 10 min it happened again...aahhh!! Then the bloody vaginal discharge started Now I'm not sure what it is. Went to my Dr and she is making an appointment for me to see they Gynecologist...not sure how long that will take...I have my ovaries still....Does anyone have any idea what this might be? Can endometriosis still occur after a hysterectomy? Ovarian cancer? endo cancer? bloodwork showed no infections...WBC was fine too...sigh!

Re: Bleeding/pain 10 years after full hysterectomy
Endo can definitely still occur after a hysterectomy. At my hysterectomy they found endo, and while they cleared it out, the doctor left my ovaries because he didn't want to put me in menopause. Hindsight is 20/20...2 years later I just had a BSO done because the endo had returned. Both ovaries were attached by adhesions to the top of the vaginal cuff. I was having regular monthly spotting and fairly constant pelvic & back pain.
The surgeon this time told me that I would have to go at least 6 months before HRT is even considered, because the HRT would activate the endo again.
Keep track of your symptoms and DO see a doctor. Ask some friends for recommendations of a good GYN--someone who is a good listener who will take your concerns seriously.
Wishing you well!

Re: Bleeding/pain 10 years after full hysterectomy
Yes, endo can re-occur after a hysterectomy. I had endo and had a DvH with BSO. Well I personally don't think they got it all and I have had pelvic pain on and off since then. Because of it, I have chronic pain. I would definitely try to see a specialist in endometriosis who can figure this out. It really sounds like it is kicking back in and probably is causing the problems. There is a lot of research now on endo showing that it can create its own supply of estrogen. Even one implant can do this. They used to think a hyst would "cure" it and now have discovered that it doesn't. There are a lot of women on here who have had this happen. Sending hugs.

Re: Bleeding/pain 10 years after full hysterectomy
Exactly; as Zenyatta said above, research shows it can make its own estrogen supply. The GYN/Onc who just did my surgery discussed this with me ahead of time and made no promises that it won't come back. He said even microscopic cells can eventually come back to haunt you. This is why he will not consider giving me any type of HRT for at least 6 months. Personally, I was happy that he was up front about that and didn't make any promises to me that he clearly can't keep.

Re: Bleeding/pain 10 years after full hysterectomy
Well, I finally have an appointment with the GYN...July 19th.
My GP put me on meds a bacterial infection for 2 weeks but all it did was slow things down but didn't stop them. I just finished another 2 weeks of 2 different antibacterial medications that were stronger and should have gotten rid of the infection...3 days before the meds were finished it all came back again as if nothing had changed...Lower back pain, left lower abdominal pain, vaginal discharge, fatigue. GP isn't going to do anything else, I just have to wait for my GYN appointment....anyone have thoughts or expereince with this? Any suggestions of what I should be doing? I am on a cancellation list to get in sooner but that probably won't happen.
Thanks for the help/advice/suggestions.

MsReba- can your doc's office help get you in sooner at the GYN's office? Sometimes a doctors office calling can get things moved up. I am so sorry you are going through all this! Big s to you!

Ace37...The doctor's office has tried calling and has written 2 letters but the GYN office has a priority list and there are others that are higher priority cases. Only 3 1/2 more weeks until my appointment. If it gets really bad again, I'm told to go straight to emerg, otherwise I wait until July 19.
I am just tired of this and would like some answers, so thanks everyone for listening to me vent.

Re: Bleeding/pain 10 years after full hysterectomy
I found this post after having a somewhat simlar experience, only I'm just a year out from my LAVH. Unfortunately my cuff dehisced just about 8 weeks after surgery, and I've had two other surgeries for adhesions and a fibrous cyst in my vaginal cuff. MsReba, I realize your appointment was just yesterday, so I was curious to see what your gyn said? I called mine today, but of course I got a new Gyn/Onc Fellow that didn't know my case and told me to take it easy and call back Monday if I still have the spotting. Waiting is such a crap shoot!
