Did I tell my Doctor all the that he needed to know?

I am now second quessing if I discussed everything I should have with my Dr. He kept asking if I have inconstanance and I was saying no because I didn't leak all the time only if I coughed real hard. Not often. But I know realize that I have to run to the bath the minute I feel the urge or I will not make it. I sometimes do not even get my pants undone on time. I left a message for the nurse as to explain I might have poo poed the inconstanance questions. My mother had to have her bladder repaired. And with the embarressment of the topic, I did not tell my Dr. about my constant diarea and trouble completly emting by bowels. I now am concerned if I might have the other types of prolaspe that involve the lower intestine or colon. With a TVH do you know if the Dr. usually looks at everything else. I know he did extra exam during my visit to confirm the uterus but did he rule out the other types of prolaspe or did he only go by what I told him I was feeling. With everything I have read over the last week, it sounds like the other prolaspe is almost certain at some point. I just do not want to go through a surgery a few months down the road. The only surgery I have ever had was tonsils at 4yrs old and a D and C after miscarriage. Any knowledge?

Hi M Lo,

I had my hyst done for prolapses of the uterus, bladder and bowel, and it does kind of sound to me as if you may have prolapses of the bowel and bladder. I know it's embarrassing to talk to your doctor about it, but please, remember that he has got to know what symptoms you are having in order to do the best procedure for you.

I'm glad that you thought about it again, and that you called his office.

Hi M Lo

I haven't had this problem myself, so I can't speak from experience. But I am pretty sure if it were me I would not depend on a nurse relaying the information to my doctor. I believe I would go in and talk to the doctor again - and I would go with a list in hand with any questions that have come up since I saw him last. You surely don't want to go into surgery without feeling you have told your doctor every single thing that might possibly be relevant.

No need to be embarrassed, either. He's heard it all before and it's part of his job to figure it out.

Did I tell my Doctor all the that he needed to know?

hi M Lo

I think you should ring doctor and dicuss your concerns with him, as I had TVH 16 months ago with no regrets but I didnt tell him that I was leaking, same as you have explained although it is everyday.
I didnt tell him as a friend had said they would check this out whilst doing hyster, but they didnt, I only mentioned it afterwards at my post-op appointment and my specialist said he wished I had told him before hand as he could of done a bladder repair at the same time as hyster. So please give him a call and let him check things out, as I am having to go for more surgery now because of not mentioning it when it could of been done all at the same time. I felt embarrassed too but as Joselle said hes heard it all before

Let us know how you get on

You need to tell him about the bowel problem. It could have other causes besides prolapse and it could be something he can't see.

I would also clarify the extent of your bladder symptoms, but leaking while coughing isn't normal. What was his reaction to that?

Don't be embarrassed to tell your doctor- he/she hears this stuff everyday.
