dVH/RALH: Can I continue with antidepressants before hysterectomy surgery?

i take Zoloft everyday and i know u are suppose to stop taking meds week before,well mine is,,it said nsaids..
so my question is i should be able to continue the zoloft right?

The doctors office should have given you a list of safe meds and those you may not take preop.

Check with your Dr before you stop. That's a med you need to wean off over time so you don't want to stop it unless they instruct you to on how and when. Not all. Meds need to be stopped. Your Dr can give you specifics.

Zoloft is not an NSAID - Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (like ibuprofen, naproxyn, motrin, etc.) Most are allowed Tylenol for pain. When in doubt, just call the doctor and ask specifically, "Is it ok if I take Zoloft the day before my surgery?" or even, "Should I take my Zoloft before I come in for surgery?" That way there is no guessing.

I take anti anxiety and anti depressant for ptsd and secondary adrenal insufficiency related and it was ok'd to continue taking but for sure to ask your Dr.

Uh, no, you're not supposed to stop *all* meds. You're supposed to stop the meds, supplements, vitamins, etc. that your doctor *tells* you to stop. In my case, these were glucosamine and ibuprofen. I continued to take citalopram (an SSRI), Synthroid, vitamin D and ferrous sulfate right up through the morning of surgery.

Give your doc a *complete* list of what you're taking and then follow instructions.

Typically no you shouldn't stop taking antidepressants/antianxiety meds. In fact, you're usually told to take them to help keep things in order. You should check with your doctor to be certain.

I always take my D3 in the morning. I wonder if it's ok to take morning of or? Good question!
