Pain In Left Side 5 Months Post Op

Rabby: Yes, I had to get undressed from the waist down. The uro had to do a "pelvic" exam but nothing like what your gyn dr does. I guess it just depends on what they think you have. Someone else make respond with their appoint differently.

Dumby: I find it ironic that I have the same pain. It can start on my left side where my ovary should be and then goes all the way around my hip into my back. Nobody seems to know what it is and after all the tests I have had done they still can't seem to figure it out. Let me know if you find out something. I"m meeting with a "female rehabilition specialist" that is supposed to specialize in these types of problems so I'll let you know what she says. I don't have the appoint yet but hopefully soon.

No way, No way!!! Kim and dumby, I don't believe you guys are talking about the pain that wraps around the hip. I have not mentioned that for a reason. I also have it but I didn't want to confuse it with the burning pain I feel deep where the ovary should be. This is why I keep saying I think it's the ligament. The ligament attaches itself to the hip bone and down to the left side of the cuff!!!!!!! Three ligaments that hold the uterus had to be cut and resewn.

The hip thing is felt when I bend over, get in and out of a car, and bed of course. It almost feels like something foreign ...it doesn't belong there! Maybe it's swollen inside I don't know but I just made sure I never mentioned my hip because it was so far off base to the cuff! Mine only wraps around 2 or 3 inches, and if I squeeze that area I feel nothing. It's that deep. That's why I think it's a ligament. It has not always been in the hip. It began to creep over about 3 weeks ago maybe longer.

I haven't even mentioned it to my doctor because I don't want her to tell me it has nothing to do with the surgery. My right hip is perfect, so is my right side. I'm speechless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to go read about your tumor rabby. And yes, the uro will want to do something down there, you can bet on it.

I'm besides myself with 3 of us complaining about the hip involvement. I have to get some pictures of the surgery or at least of the ligments and nerves.

maralyn:

That is just too weird! I too have been telling my doctor that it feels like something is where my left ovary should be. She just looks at me like I'm weird or something. She just keeps saying if something was there then it would show up on the MRI or cat scan but I keep feeling like something is there. I can't push on it from the outside but I feel it occassionally from the inside. Then when I tell her it is in my hip and goes around my back she keeps saying she doesn't think it's from surgery.

Let us know what you find out - I'm going to have to tell this new doctor about all of us. There has to be an explaination for it.

I"m glad that we all have each other

Here I am.... Right sided pain gal..

The moderater posted my reply on its own.. was afraid i'd get lost, apparently.. in the "lefties pain" long post !

It's frustrating, isn't it.
My pain is like a dull burning/throbbing... always there.

If I'm distracted, I don't feel it.
But I feel it when I'm not!

I'll be calling my Dr. next week.. And I'll post what he says.
He's very good about explaining things but one thing, too, about him.... he is (unfortunately!) extremely honest when he doesn't KNOW!...

Pain In Left Side 5 Months Post Op

Hi all,
I have been reading the post daily keeping up on ya'lls Dr visits. I had an vaginal ultrasound on May 5th but I have not been able to speak with my Dr about it due to conflicts in schedules. She only works Mon-Wed.

I have talked to a couple of nurses at work that have also had a hysterectomy. I described my pain to one and she suggested that I try wearing some support underwear to see if that will help relieve the straining on that side thereby reducing the pain. So I gave it a try today and it has helped somewhat. I will know more after I work my 12 hr shift tonight. I plan on talking to my Dr this week if things don't improve over the weekend after wearing these elastic underwear all weekend.

I have to say that I have not experienced any hip pain as some of the others have described. My pain is a constant dull ache on the left side of my incision that is tender to touch. If often radiates into the middle of my abdomen below the incision. I still think it is adhesions.

Will keep you posted.

Joining the side pain club

Hi Ladies,

It was nice to see that I'm not alone in the side pain department. I too have had side pain although mine is on the right more than the left. I have a great deal of lower back/hip pain also. I've just been attributing it to phantom ovary or nerves repairing themselves pain since that's what my doctor thinks it is.

Well there you are Karen I wanted to say, I'm sure we all feel that pain is pain..left or right! I was begining to think that there were so many of us with left side pain that maybe it had to do with RIGHT HANDED SURGEONS!!!

You're throbing makes me wonder if you have some swelling around some veins/vessels. Please do let us know what you learn. I don't know if the moderater will allow this post to continue because of it's length...but hopefully it will last long enough for some of us to share our answers.

Take care Karin.
PS is your doctor right or left handed ?

Pain In Left Side 5 Months Post Op

Hi LSPC!

So here's what's going on with me and my treatments. Went to physical therapy on Thurs morning...she worked internally and externally on my left side. Inside the muscles were in defininate knots which she did pressure and release and tried to stretch the muscles. Externally she worked the incision scars and worked deep into the muscles on my left right by my hip and inner thigh. Then we did e-stim and a heating pad. Have to say that it really helped the muscle pain (secondary pain). Then today I went to the dr and had an internal nerve block on the puednal nerve (?). didn't hurt that bad and it seems as though I'm not hurting as bad as I have been, though all the poking and prodding got everything stirred up. I'll see tomorrow when I go to work how it does. My dr was explaining that the muscles are definately spasming and tense because of the nerve. She also spoke to my PT and next week we are going to also try the TENS, which I have heard many of the sisters have used. Any want to tell about there experiences with the TENS? Good/bad/indifferent? So I took off the day today so that I could relax after the nerve block. Thank goodness for laptops!

Hi Ladies,

Nancy, jump on board! Your pain sounds a little different in two ways. Let us know what your US reads and if your doctor also thinks it's adhesions...oh and ask him if adhesions hurt when pushed on. There's about 3 of us that when we push on ourselves we feel nothing...interesting.

Hi mce, i hear what you're saying about the nerves but how long do they stay in the state of repair? I didn't catch a date of your surgery. I just rubystar's post and the nerve seems bad.

I don't know about the rest of you, but if I sit I'm ok. I took care of my 16 month old grandson today..alot of lifting him and holding him (he's too cute and sweet) and tonight I can hardly walk. This is not right after 5 1/2 months post.

Rubystar, just reading your post made me look away...I hurt so much now that I can't imagine being pushed and proded on. And then to read about your nerve block with a needle . So, question: are you diagnosed now with nerve?? what, nerve damage, nerve regeneration, nerve entrapment? All your other tests, the MRI and US were negative right? What is your prognosis? And what is TENS? Sorry for all the questions.

so far, 3 have been diagnosed with nerve damage or entrapment and there are 2 other strong possiblities of nerve damage. No kidding, I'm keeping track!

take care,
