weight gain question

Hi:
Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this: I know weight gain is almost unavoidable after hysterectomy if you have NOT gone through menopause yet due to the hormones. But does that apply if you have already gone through menopause ???

Re: weight gain question

I personally have not gain any weight since my TAH on june 1st I actually lost a few pounds due to eating healthier....I'm 36 and have had no menopausal symptoms as of now and i have no ovaries and i'm not doing hrt....so really it depends on the person reguarding what is going to happen and how you are going to handle it.....but my doc says menopause doesn't make you gain weight it is the comfort food that does it....and she said that goes for the hysto also....just remember everyone is different and unique in their own way.

Re: weight gain question

I was 54 at the time of my hyst and menopausal for a couple of years. I actually lost a few pounds at first and am now still at about my pre surgery weight ( I'm within my normal weight range ).

I'm taking a very low dosage of hrt ( estrogen only ), hope to continue it for a bit longer. I stay pretty active and that helps too

Best wishes.

Re: weight gain question

Weight gain is not unavoidable after a hysterectomy. Change of eating habits may be necessary but weight can be maintained or reduced. Body just has different needs Hormone imbalance may contribute to weight gain.
