painful intercourse and weigh gain after hysterectomy

Hello:

I am new to this site so please bear with me. I finally went to my OB/GYN to talk to him about the painful intercourse I have been experiencing with my husband. He put me on birth control pills to see if that would help, "well that did not help" He told me to come back on Oct.
11th and we would talk about a hysterectomy. I have had a laparoscopy done for the painful intercourse but that showed nothing.
I am soooooooooooo tired of the heavy 8 day bleeding with clots and pain during intercourse, that I want a hysterectomy. Is there weight gain after a hysterectomy? I keep hearing from other women to not get a hysterectomy. I just want to hear from other women that a hysterectomy does not cause weight gain and that it aint so bad.....

I had a TAH/BSO July 6, 2000. The BSO was due to unexpected tumors on my ovaries that the Feb ultrasound didn't show.

I am fine, I am 10 lbs lighter in spite of HRT (my fibroids were 20 week size).

However, I wouldn't leap into this surgery without having a really, really good reason for it. In my case, my fibroids were growing rapidly and the pain, bleeding and anemia were out of control (the bigger they are the faster they grow... or at least mine! )

From your post, I get the feeling your gyn doesn't really know what the problem is? If so get another gyn, or at least a second opinion. This operation is a last resort (with NO reversal possible), it is to be avoided if there is a less invasive way of fixing your problem especially if you don't have kids and might want them.

If your problem during periods is bleeding and pain you might try naproxine, I was on this for several years before the fibroids decided to do a growth spurt and it was great.

Don't leap into this without being sure that it is the right course.

Thanks for your advice! I have a 3 year old toddler and I want no more kids. My husband took care of that matter.
I feel confident in my GYN, but before I make the surgery decision I just wanted to make sure I got a lot of advice from women. Thanks much for your advice, I might get a second opinion just for the peace of mind.

I haven't had problems with weight gain since my hysterectomy in July. I was at the point where I no longer had a lot of choices about whether or not to have a hysterectomy(I had already put it off for 5 years)
But, I would definitely try everything else you can before you agree to the hysterectomy.
I am glad that I had mine but this is a life changing experience. And it has not been an easy road to go down, it really takes a toll on your body in many ways.
Please get a second opinion and be 100% sure that you are doing the right thing for you.
