Golytely / Liquid Diet Day before Surgery
Day before Surgery, Liquid Diet all day no food after Midnite
Golytely - Or should I say "GO Harshly and often"
My Surgery is not until 11:30 am the next day, could I eat a light breakfast in the early am, Poached egg or scrambled?
I start the Golytely in the afternoon.
I am afraid I will be starving before surgery.
I will be doing this on Sunday, anyone eles doing prep on Sunday?

Golytely / Liquid Diet Day before Surgery
My surgery is on Tuesday. Luckily my prep for Monday night is not the golightly. However, I was told that I could eat a nice meal Monday for lunch (as long as it wasn't too heavy) but was told to eat a very light supper. Then before bedtime I am to do a fleets enema and a betadine douche. Which, I am NOT looking forward to. Then of course nothing to eat or drink after midnight.
My surgery will be at 5:45 am on Tuesday so I guess I got lucky on that time. I have had to wait for surgery before and it can be maddening. Just think of positive things and maybe your time will fly and you won't notice being hungry.
I hope things go well for you.

Golytely / Liquid Diet Day before Surgery
If you were told liquid diet the day before surgery then that's what it means. Unless they specifically said "24 hours" before surgery then it's liquid all day. Sorry.

Golytely / Liquid Diet Day before Surgery
If your surgery is at 11:30 am *DO NOT*, under any circumstances, eat any kind of breakfast, light or otherwise. If they tell you not to eat or drink after midnight the night before then follow the instructions to the letter. It's all for your own safety. If you eat anything they may cancel your surgery. My surgery is at 11:15 am. I'll probably eat around 6 PM and that will be the end of it. I'll spend the rest of the night hydrating because I have to do the enema at 7 PM. After midnight I won't be able to have anything except a little bit of water to take my blood pressure meds in the morning. It won't kill you. I have to be in the hospital at 9 am so hopefully they'll put in the IV and get some liquids in me. Thirst is the worst part for me since I normally drink a lot of water during the day.

Golytely / Liquid Diet Day before Surgery
I'm going in for surgery on Monday. The nurse told me that I can eat up until about 3:00pm. After 3:00 I'm only to have liquids. She stated not to consume any solid food after 3:00pm.
Best of luck.

I did golyetely....
and believe me, you want the least amount of food in you as you can stand when you start it. I liquid fasted a day and a half before I had to do it. I drank alot of juice so I had somewhat cleaned myself out before golytely was started so I did not have to even drink half of it. I did this with my Dr's knowledge, do not do it w/out telling your Dr as surgery could be canceled due to dehydration. I was/am healthy enough to do this, no other medical problems.
You will also need hemmorriod pads b/c after the 3000000th time you "go", rectum will be very sore with the tiolet paper wiping. Or a diaper cream, I used a product called "Butt Paste" (I got it at Target, if you have any in your area), had highest zinc oxide content which soothes tender tissues.
I was sort of excited about doing it as it started the surgery process so I kept this mind after going AGAIN....And it eases the mind about the first post-op bm as you are cleaned out before surgery....

Golytely / Liquid Diet Day before Surgery
I'm also going in tomorrow and I was only told nothing after midnight. They didn't say anything about eating lightly, earlier, liquid, etc.... I was also told the betadine douche and the enema would be given in the morning after I get to the hospital at 6:30am. I am going to have dinner early today if I can even eat much at all....I think my stomach is filled with butterflies!

I go in May 2, also. I was only told nothing to eat or drink after midnight the day before. No one mentioned anything about douches or enemas.

Fallow Docs Advice
HI, I have not made my trip to the castle yet I am to go on 5/2/05. but I had a Lap on Dec 21st 04 . and the night before I had to drink this awfull tasting liquid desined to clean out the systym and let me tell you it worked by 1AM I had it comeing out both ends. but my Doctor said it was nessasary because I had severe adhesive disease and he was not sure if my bowels were up higher than they should be . and he explained to me that if I did not follow this advice to the letter . and he did have a problem and cut into my bowels and I had food in there I would have more problems than I allready had .I know it does not seem fare that you can't eat before surgery especially since you won't be eating real food for at least a day after and by then you feel like they are trying to starve you to death but it is in your best i nterest.anyway I hope this helps you and good luck.Cathy P.S. I have been told by friends that have allready done this that if you drink plenty of water or apple juice if you like that it helps alot with the cleaning uot process.
