scared with a few questions?

I had TVH 03/15/07....I would say, make a list of everything that you wonder about and worry about and take the list with you to pre op.....they will answer all of your questions....As far as going to the castle...I only took my cell phone, id, and clothes I wore there...I wished I had taked some hard candies and lip gloss and my throat was so dry the whole first day. I slept most of the first day and went home around dinner time on day 2. After surgery I had a morphine drip at the hospital and the cath came out the second day. When I went home I had a RX for pain meds...used them for the first couple of days then tylenol....My DH was home with me for 2 weeks and did not let me do anything except sit in the recliner and sleep. I had my area set up with books, magazines, bottled water and the tv remote...I was slow moving for the first two weeks then after that I just took it very easy and slowly got more mobile...It went very smoothly and quickly now that I look back on it....Just get as much rest as you can and dont over do....I spotted for a full six weeks....went back to work at 7 weeks, and got back to lap swimming at about 9 weeks.....I am 4.5 months out now and feeling great!
Best wishes to you for a speedy uneventful surgery and recovery!!

scared with a few questions?

Hi sweetme1983!

Here’s a handy checklist for your upcoming appointment:

Questions For My Pre-Op Appointment

Regarding what to bring along with you to the , here’s a list some members have found helpful:

What To Bring to the Hospital

I’m a “light packer” by nature, so all I brought to the hospital with me was a hairbrush and toothbrush/toothpaste, and I wouldn’t do it any differently in the future.

Doctors and nurses are humane creatures who don't want their patients to suffer, either in the hospital or at home afterwards. Your pain will be managed so that you can feel as comfortable as possible and can recover as quickly as possible.

Many s and Best Wishes,

I found this website very helpful.. If you go into Pre-Op there is a list of questions to ask your doctor. I printed the list out and I also wrote out questions that were not listed . When I went to see my Dr. she took the time and answered every question on my list. I only brought my ID with me and my DH held on to that for me. The next day after surgery he brought my little overnight bag. I had in that cotton short sleeve jammies,a short robe and flip flops that I decorated special for me to wear. I put rhinestones on them and had so many compliments. They just made me feel a little special after all it is all about us! The hospital does make you walk around before you are able to go home. So I walked the halls. I also brought mints with me.
I brought a toothbrush and comb as well.

They gave me a morphine drip but I didn't use it because I didn't have pain. But they did give me toradol which is Extra Strength Tylenol for pain. The Dr didn't want me to have any pain so she ordered the toradol. I was fine. I had the same surgery you are going to have. I think I worked myself up more than the surgery was. Sweetie, you will be fine.

Look at all the pre-op info it is all so valuable.

Hopefully I was able to help you out. Just take it easy afterwards and let everyone cater to you because you don't want to hurt anything on the inside and set you back in healing.

Good luck and remember we are all sisters and we are here to help......

scared with a few questions?

I won't answer all of your questions because other posters have given you GREAT links about those. Also... go to the pre-op discussion board. Just recently people have asked your exact same concerns.

All I want to stress to you is the WAITING is BY FAR the HARDEST part. I'm 3 weeks out and that waiting was so stressful for me. I about freaked out. You are going to do great. We are all sending you best wishes!

scared with a few questions?

I wore a loose fitting skirt and big tshirt and comfy shoes. You will be bloated and sore in the tummy so be thinking what a good outfit would be.
Wear it there and home so you don't have to pack so much.
I took my ipod which I loved having for my sleepless night, I took yarn to crochet with to keep my mind busy. I took magazines but didn't have the brain power to read - nervous energy and couldn't concentrate but that is just me Be sure and take lip balm and throat drops and have both close to you before bed time! My throat was so sore after the procedure and DH had fallen asleep and it was a long time before a nurse came in and my throat was hurting so bad.
Socks or slippers for when you can get up and walk. And take your own pillows. They are so much nicer!
Good luck with your surgery. Be a good princess and try and get some rest before and after the castle stay.
