calm

Hello Ladies: I am 2 1/2 weeks away from having my hysterectomy. I actually feel very calm. I was more nervous when i went to see my OB/GYN. I have many fears though, but i'm trying not to let them overtake my emotions. It really helps reading everyone's experiences and what to take & not to take to the hospital. My only concern is that something may happen during or after the surgury.

Re: calm

Ya know I figure mine is my mid-life rebellion. I'm 2 months out still but plan on working on loosing some weight in the meantime, have completed information for changing my career and returning to college. My midlife rebellion- pain free from aunt flo new job and at a reasonable weight.

Try not to worry about during the surgery. I heard a statement made by an anesthesiologist that a persons emotions before anesthesia are a direct influence on how peacefully they come out of anesthesia. Try to stay calm and relax.

Re: calm

I was totally at peace with my surgery because I put it off until I was. I know not everyone can do that, but for me, I had to have that feeling inside me it was the right thing to do. Because of that, I went into the hospital totally ready and happy to get it over with! The nurses and Dr's couldn't believe how calm I was. I think it really helped me to be calm while going into surgery, I came out and when I woke up I was still calm as a cucumber. The pain was BAD, I won't lie. BUT, with the right pain management, I'm now about 5 weeks out and doing well besides adjusting to the HRT. Don't fret, it'll be ok!!!

Re: calm

You will have a range of emotions - this is very normal. As the surgery date approaches, these feelings may intensify. We understand what your are going through.

It is understandable to be scared. This is a very big deal. This is MAJOR SURGERY! Know that the doctors and nurses will take very good care of you during surgery. They will watch over you and the will see you through this.

We will also be here by your side throughout this process.

Just keep posting - it really does help.
