Upcoming surgery: Stairs and DaVinci Hysterectomy

What suggestions and ideas do you have for going up and down the stairs after surgery? Living room, kitchen, etc on one floor and the bedrooms are upstairs. The garage is on another floor beneath the main floor. I have two children and will need to go up and down stairs. I am working on my preparation for my surgery on the 27th. I am a single mom and am making sure I have most things in place. I know that adjustments will need to be made along the way.

Thank you for you help

Hold the handrails! My dr said that going up and down is fine, but not falling. Also I wasn't supposed to carry big or awkward things while going up and down, it was really not uncomfortable for me at all, I went up and down several times a day.

Ditto what coughy16 said. I had no restriction not to but no carrying/lifting while doing it. Handrails a must for support. Stairs were actually first amount of walking I did because I have lots in my house and could do with out feeling I would fall unlike uneven ground outside and had something to hold onto when resting when I got tired or had pain.

Re: Upcoming surgery: Stairs and DaVinci Hysterectomy

Hi Kathy2015 -

I had a TAH BSO, and also had no restrictions on stairs. My bedroom is on the upstairs, the kitchen and living room are on the main level, and the family room where I did most of the recovery was on the level below that. The stairs are half flights. I did take the stairs VERY SLOWLY. And if my husband was home, he walked next to me. But, I felt comfortable doing it alone when he was not home, just did it slowly.
