Re: Pain Medication

Discuss with your doctor all of the pain meds you have had reactions to, which ones didn't work for you, and which ones did work for you. S/he can then order appropriate pain medication for you. Vicodin, Hydrocodone, Percocet, and some others don't work for me at all. I talked to my doc about this and had generic Tylenol 3 and it worked very well for me. The doc also ordered Demerol for in the hospital in case the Tylenol 3 wasn't enough, but I didn't need it. My worst pain was from the gas (it got as high as a 9 1/2). I ended up asking the nurse to burp me, which she did, and that helped (I couldn't belch or fart). Warm weak tea and GasX are good, but avoid anything carbonated and don't use a straw! Also make sure you eat enough fiber and drink bunches and bunches of water, or you'll get constipated, which is painful and uncomfortable and miserable in general.

God's blessings and good luck!

Has anyone else had that experience with morphine? it seemed strange to me that something known to be so strong, was ineffective for me. Any suggestions on what I could ask for? I hate feeling out of it, but I also know I will NOT want to be vomiting from pain meds after all that surgery. Thanks ladies!

The only thing stronger is dalaudid and they gave me meds to keep me from throwing up.. Good Luck
