Some successful pre-op measures I took

I decided to share with you some of the things I did before the operation (laparoscopic - removal of everything) for which now I am glad that I did.
Since I was scheduled for surgery a good month earlier, I had time to come up with a few ideas that I hoped will help me with the recovery. Let me share them with you:
-- about a week before the surgery I started to take Zinc tablets (100mg/day) because I knew that zinc is important for tissue healing.
-- I also took an additional daily multivitamin tablet, I figured it doesn't hurt to be well stocked with whatever my body might need during recovery
-- four days before surgery I started to take flax oil capsules (1 in the morning, 1 at night). As a matter of fact I continued taking them right after I got home 24 hours after the surgery, because one of the main issues during post-op is bowel movements. We do not poop for a few days because of trauma and because we tend to not eat properly. As a result people get very constipated, and so we all get tool softeners prescribed. But you would start those only later, which then allows a small hard plug to form in the meantime. Because of the pre- and post-surgery flax oil capsules my first BM was a breeze, nice and soft...
-- because of a heart murmur I always take antibiotics before dental work, so I figured that any surgical procedure may benefit from it. I took two amoxycillin capsules with a tiny sip of water before going in for the surgery.
Whichever of the above measures may have done what, the results are very satisfying. I did not have ANY pain (except for some small pain caused by movements that pulled on the wounds), I was up and walking 12 hours after the surgery, and walked out of there after 20. I had a nice, effortless first BM on the fourth day, I was out grocery shopping on the fifth (I wore a not too tight elastic girdle, though), after that I slipped into my regular "drive-the-kids" schedule, and now, on the eighth, I even did some gardening, digging up dandelions. I feel great!
