Another "Newbie" with a question

I'm scheduled for TAH on May 16th. I go in for my pre-op on May 7th in the mean time, I have one question for now.

Did most of you know ahead of time if you were going to have bladder repair? My doctor hasn't said anything at all and I'm not having any problems.

Hi EMarieD, and Welcome to Hystersisters!!

I can't answer for anyone but myself, of course, but before I went into surgery I knew that I had a cystocele and would need to have it repaired. If you are not having problems, there would be no reason for your doctor to repair your bladder. But, since you are concerned about it, please ask your doctor exactly what he plans to do, so that you are totally comfortable with the procedure beforehand.

Please let us know what he says.

just to let you know i know what i am having it done---because i can see my bladder in my vagina opening. i am also seeing a urologist to find out what type of repair i will need. i would ask your doctor for that information though. not everyone knows --- some times the doctor doesn't know until they get in there. janice72

EMarieD,
I might have replied to you earlier. Not sure. My dr wanted to wait and see re: bladder repair. He thout having my uterus out would let bladder fall back into place. I didn't push for bladder sling due to his advise. Now, I will be having bladder surgery. Open up via same incision on tummy, same hospital and recovery time as hyster. So, my adsvice TALK to your DR PRIOR to hyster.

Another "Newbie" with a question

Hi,

I have just asked my dr. the same question yesterday. He said that my bladder will fall back into place once my enlarged uterus is removed, so do not need bladder repair. He will again do a scan before surgery to determine that, as I am on Lupron and my uterus shoudl have shrunk a little by then and decide again. If needed to, he will consult a urologist and get it done during the hyst. Hope this helps. hongwah

I was at the Dr yesterday and asked the same question. His reply to me was that my pelvic floor is very tight and I did not need it. He said I was blessed having an area so tight and in shape for being 40 and having 1 child 7 yrs ago. Guess that is from all the kegels I practiced from years ago til present!
Maybe you are blessed like me and don't need the repair.
Susan
