New and worried

Hi, I am new to the site...but I have been checking it out for some time. Just never got the nerve to write. I am 45, and had a TVH in 1993. No problems there... and I have never regretted that decision. As a matter of fact it was a blessing. Now I am faced with TAH BSO and am really worried about the depression and weight gain I've been reading about. There seems to be so many more horror stories than good results. I've never been depressed in my life, that scares me. I am an active person but Endo had taken hold of my life and made most of each month unbearable. The Endo has fused my rectal wall with the vaginal wall. That makes having a bowel movement so very painfiul. That will also require extra surgery. Needless to say I am worried. I am concerned that if I take HRT will the Endo continue even with having the surgery. Any answers out there? I have gained quite a bit of knowledge from this site but also quite a bit of concern. Thanks....Kay

Hiya Katybug...welcome to Hyster Sisters.

I am relatively new here myself. I have been coming for the last few weeks. I LOVE it.

I don't really have any experience with endo but I have seen it mentioned here several times. Hopefully some of the ladies who have had it will post to you soon.

Glad you found us.

Hi Katybug, and Welcome!

I'm a little confused....around here, a TVH means total vaginal hysterectomy. If you had that in 1993, are you having a TAH/BSO now? Or do you mean you're losing your ovaries?

I had TAH/BSO in March, and I really feel great. I was lucky to have an uneventful recovery...no problems with HRT, weight gain or depression. Please read about a good variety of outcomes on our Pull Down Menus...might make you feel better!!!

Please keep reading and posting, and we'll all help you get through this!

Glad to have you with us!!!

Sorry, it may take a while for me to get used to the terms. Let me explain a little better. I had a vaginal with uterus and cervix removed in "93" and now I need to have tubes and ovaries removed with rectal reconstruction. It is nice to know there are good outcomes to this surgery. Thanks for the support. Kay

Glad you found us

Here is another happy hyster sister to report a positive outcome. I had a TVH/BSO and went on HRT right after surgery. I can tell you I haven't had any negative emotional effects so far! I am on the lowest dose Estraderm patch and that's working great. I am lucky, I know; sometimes it takes an adjustment or two to get the hormone replacement just right.

The only thing I am missing is my periods...and I DON'T miss them at all!!
