Question about TVT

Hello again
I have a question. My surgery date (TAH,TVT) is April 5th, and my pre-op appointment is not until March 29th, so I am going to ask you all this question. Does everyone that has some kind of bladder/Urethra repair done go home with a catheter? For some reason, it never occured to me that this might happen until I starting reading some of the posts. Maybe denial isn't such a good thing.

Bladder Repair

Hi Laurie:

I had a SPARC bladder sling with my LAVH/BSO in November 2002. I did not have a cath when I came home. It was removed the morning after my surgery. Having this surgery has changed my life for the better. My only regret is not having it sooner!! Good luck with your surgery. You'll do fine.

catheter

my surgery is monday - you can see below what I'm having - and they told me I will come home with cath for 1-2 weeks to make sure bladder can rest - not sure which procedure makes this necessary - maybe a combination of the amount of work that is being done - of everything involved, the cath is what i'm not looking forward too :-)

I didn't come home with a catheter

My gyn told me I'd have a 50/50 chance of having to self-cath. When the took out the catheter at the hospital, I could "try" to void. First time, no luck. Second time yaaay it worked! They put a "hat" over the toilet to make sure I was voiding enough. From what I've read the princesses who had to self-cath didn't have any problems. A nurse at my hospital recommended a cheap full length mirror placed on the floor so you have a good view if you do need to self cath. Good luck!

Question about TVT

I had an LAVH and urethra repair and my catheter was removed in the hospital the morning after surgery. My urologist had told me that I would be going home with the catheter. However, when he got to the hospital to see me that morning, the catheter was already out and since I was relieving myself with no problems, he said I must not need it. He did, however, give me a prescription for UTI to prevent me from getting one.

Question about TVT

Thank you for all your responses....I guess that I will be hoping and praying for the best. That is just one more question to add to my long list of questions for my doctor....I hope she is prepared for a long pre-op appointment.
