super heavy periods plus recurrent ovarian cysts...two options

I am new here and trying to decide which option is better for my situation. If you are willing to read the history I'd love your opinion...

I'm 30 and have had my tubes tied already. I have had four ovarian cysts drained off my left ovary since I was 18. I have had very very heavy periods since I was 12. Have used birth control, tried an IUD and tried just living with it for 18 years. I currently have a huge cyst that is twisting and untwisting because of it's size and will most likely need to be drained. I am going to ask them to take the left ovary out at the same time.
For the heavy periods (which have gotten to be up to 2.5 weeks long) they have offered ablasian (sp?) or to take the uterus. Question is if I want to try the ablasian even though I'm having surgery for the cyst or just have them take the uterus out to avoid a second surgery.

The doctor asked me to take a week to think about it and that he is leaving the decision to me and is good with both. I am so tired of trying things that I am leaning towards the hysterectomy and ovary removal. However I want to make sure I'm not making a mistake just because I'm tired of trying.

I want to be able to be active and go running, have sex, chase my kids without worrying that I"m going to start bleeding. I am tired of wearing a tampon in many situations 'just in case'.

Any opinions?

Re: super heavy periods plus recurrent ovarian cysts...two options

I had ablashion done last May. It did help with the bleeding for a few months. Now I'm out of options and they want to do a full hysterectomy. My dr said that they are finding greater success with ablashion with older women, as the lining tends to not grow back as much. I was 40 when I had mine. It was worth the try for me though. Good luck and remember everyone is different!

Re: super heavy periods plus recurrent ovarian cysts...two options

I was told that ablation was a short term solution at best because I was only 35.
So I'm going for the hysterectomy , doctors willing

I have completely irregular and massively heavy periods
I'm like you , fed up with wearing protection or avoiding sex , " just in case"
I want it all over with
