Surgery scheduled for 3/25 and guess what Urinary Tract Infection!!

I am scheduled for surgery on 3/25 and I told them when I went to my pre-admission testing as well as my last surgical consult (both on 3/19) that I felt like I had a Urinary Tract Infection. Dr. said they would do a urine in pre-admission and didn't do one in the office. At pre-admission, they said they couldn't do one because the Dr. did not order a urine screen. LOL Guess what. 2 days later when I went to my son's dr. to take him for allergies I asked if they would do an instant test and they did. They said I have the beginning of a UTI and need to get to treated ASAP. I also was told to call my OB/GYN which I did. My dr's office got back to me and since I had an appointment with my primary doctor I should be put on antibiotics and that that should not affect the surgery. The point of all this is has anyone else had a UTI before surgery?? It makes me so mad that no one listened to me and that I have been in pain for 2 days because of this!! Just wondering.

Surgery scheduled for 3/25 and guess what Urinary Tract Infection!!

Hi Amy,

The same thing happened to me. The doctor went ahead with surgery; they put the antibiotic in my I.V. and that took care of the problem right away.

Prior to my surgery I'd gotten a mild yeast infection from taking a large dose of antibiotics to kill a bacteria in my stomach. I guess it wiped out all the good germs! Don't worry, it shouldn't interfer with surgery plans...at least I wouldn't think so.

Blessings and best wishes for a speedy recovery!
