TAH and baths

How soon after a TAH are you allowed to safely have a bath without assistance?

Am unable to find anything about when it is safe to have baths, i know showers are ok but not sure on baths.

would love to have one but am a little bit concerned on the whole abdominal wound thing and the getting in and out of the bath.

Re: TAH and baths

I think my doctor said six weeks for the abdominal surgery. It could be four weeks, but it is best to ask your doctor or his nurse. I know a lot of people are anxious to take a bubble bath -- just because they can't. You may want to wait a little longer for the bubble bath.
Take care.

Re: TAH and baths

Ask your doc but the shortest time I've seen recommended is two weeks and that was for a robotic procedure with the small incisions and I have to assume that it's a bit longer for an abdominal procedure.

Re: TAH and baths

You should check with your doctor on that one. You have to wait until you are cleared. S/he would be better able to say what's right for you. Risk of infection and compromising the healing of your cuff would be an issue. Plus, being able to get safely in and out of the tub will probably be a big concern also

Re: TAH and baths

I had an AH and had x2 baths at the hospital four days post op to assist with urination. This was without assistance. My wound was dressed with a waterproof dressing. Hope this helps.
