returning to work after 6 weeks?

Hello all you wonderful ladies,
I have a concern if someone could help with it I sure would appreciate it.I am at the point where I feel I should be doing everything I was doing before yet if I try to,I can tell I dont feel ready.(sigh) When will that feeling go away?I am concerned as I was hoping to return to work after my 6 week post op appt on march 25th.I work in a shipping dept where it is extremely fast paced and I must be able to lift boxes and be on my feet all day. There is much bending ,lifting, packing and weighing boxes the whole liv long day.Plus, the area I work in is small and I must be able to move fast and turn on a dime if need be.Does anyone have any advise for me?Will I be able to do all that in another week or so? Thank you so much for any information you can give me.

At 5 wk I iwent back to a heavy fast paced job and I did it but was tired at the end of a long day. But I think it was OK. Take the full time and good luck going back.

Re: returning to work after 6 weeks?

Hi BakerLady,

I had my op 6 weeks ago Tues too and I feel exactly the same as you. I WANT to do everything as I did and I am a really capable, fast paced kind of person but I just crash and burn if I do too much....can you return on reduced hours for a few weeks?

I work from home and have been doing since 1 week post op but if I had your kind of job, I know I wouldn't want to be lifting etc right now.....I am just not ready.

I sympathise with your question as I feel so frustrated that I am not back to "normal."

Thinking of you and hoping all goes well whatever you decide.

Re: returning to work after 6 weeks?

have your doctor clear you before you return to work. especially such a physical job. i was cleared to return to my physical job at six weeks but my doctor told me to keep my weight limit to 20 pounds for several more weeks and then gradually increase it. and to also watch my bending and lifting. ive been very careful with that still. ive been back to work almost 2 weeks. the first one i was pretty tired and sort of achy at the end of the day. at the end of this second week, i feel better. a little stronger and a little less tired at the end of the day.
i would just check with your doctor tho. when i asked about returning to work on here several weeks ago, every woman who replied told me to let my doctor be the judge of that. i was going to just start working on my own. im glad i listened to my sisters.

Re: returning to work after 6 weeks?

I feel the same way as you, and my doctor cleared me at 6 weeks to return and I decided to wait two more weeks. I was actually hemming and hawing and thinking to tell them one more week and then I stayed on my treadmil at a slow walk for 30 minutes and I felt like I ripped something inside. That cleared up but it convinced me to wait as my job is also fast paced and on my feet all day. I just aint ready.

Re: returning to work after 6 weeks?

Wow, that sounds like a hard job on a good day! I would suggest you describe your typical day to your dr and get his/her advice. I'd take as much time off as possible and start back at half time to ease your body into that routine. Good luck with your decision and your healing.
