How soon after tvh do you have food?

I am scheduled for a tvh on march 9th, i sometimes have nausea with pain meds so need food.. plan on asking for antinausea meds but wonder if i even feel like food how long before i get to eat a bit? My surgery is sched for 7:30 am and i am staying the night in the castle.. wondering if i will be hungry or even be able to have dinner?

The pain meds made me sick so I didn't til the next morning. The woman sharing the room was eating dinner and had breakfast the next morning. I think they want you to eat as soon as you feel up to it.

They wanted me to eat as soon as I got to my room and with any pain meds, although my IV meds caused me nausea so no luck eating. I know I've read some ladies saying they were on clear liquids, but for me they brought crackers and yogurt as soon as I got to my room.

It is completely up to you and your body. Once you are over nausea from anesthesia you can eat what you want. I did find that my appetite was not as large...I had to eat smaller portions for first two weeks. Not a bad thing...lol.

My nerves have made me queasy and I'm not eating much and my surgery is not until Friday...LOL. I know that anesthesia and pain meds make me vomit so the doc has arranged for meds for that ...one thing less to worry about. I am taking to heart all of the warnings on painful gas ect on this site and kind of don't even WANT to eat after so I don't have to go thru that...eeek!

My surgery was about the same time, I was able to have "dinner" that night.... *but* I was on a liquid diet for two more days... so it was jello, broth, juices.

Honestly, I wasn't hungry.. too foggy, too sleepy.. didn't even think about food until someone brought a tray in.

I also get sick from the anethesia, I told them before the surgery. They added meds to help and put a patch behind my ear. First surgery I've ever had with no nasuea!
