The Downside at 4 Weeks…Cigarettes

Kathy, cocky was exactly how I behaved!

I had a quit date and let it slide by. I have some things going on that I haven't discussed on these message boards, so I've pushed back my quit date. In fact I have a day on my calendar to restart the Lung Association Program and a new quit date.

I'll get there and I hope you do too!

Post when you are ready to. I think just someone else knowing you're trying and giving encouragement helps. I'm back on the patch today as of noon. DH started on the patch this morning. We'll see how we're doing this evening.
DNA, I am sending you a PM for that wedsite. Thanks
Kathy

The Downside at 4 Weeks…Cigarettes

I feel like such a wimp next to you ladies. I have an allergy to alcohol and I never wanted to do drugs, so I went through this life completely sober. When I was 40 (I'm 44 now), things were very stressful at work. During break time, the person sitting next to me was smoking a "rollie". You know, no filter or anything. I was extremely upset and asked that person if I could have a drag. Well let me tell you....it was Nirvana! A beautiful feeling of peace blanketed me as the smoke entered my lungs. It happened so fast. Just like any other drug, I have never been able to match that first "high". I did quit for 8 days 4 months after I first started, but then I saw Audrey Hepburn smoking in the movie "Charade" and it was all over for me. I have blamed her ever since, lol. I am smoking alot less since the surgery and, for now, give myself pats on the pack for that. I mean 1/2 pack a day has got to be better than a whole pack, right? Also, having to walk so far to have a smoke at the hospital got me moving around like nothing else...........I know "there is no safe cigarette", but I smoke ultra lights. Does anyone know if that makes any difference?

lights -vs- regular

Actually there is probably more chemicals in the "lights" than the regular. To keep folks smoking them, they enhance the tobaco. You can go to http://forums.quitnet.com/qn_gettingStarted.jtml
and find a lot of useful info on quitting and questions like you have.

Jennifer, my 40th year was super rough too. (I'm 45.) I tried to quit and failed. Yup, it's nutty that you started at that age but it's certainly not impossible for me to imagine how that might happen. Yes, of course a half pack is better than a whole pack. I think you'll be able to quit--when you're ready. People say, oh, there's never a "good time" to quit but actually, I think there are better and worse times. What makes a time "better" is an individual thing. Always remember if you fall off the wagon, you can dust yourself off and get right back on again. I wish you a smooth and rapid recovery--from the hyst and from nicotine addiction!
