Re: I am so frustrated and disappointed! I can't stop crying!
I had an Endometrial Biopsy in November 2008 due to heavy bleeding, clotting, etc. (I was carring extra clothes with me to work and would panic at the thought of shopping while I had my period, sometimes bathrooms jut weren't close enough) The Biopsy came back negative for cancer. The Dr then had me go for an ultra sound which showed fibroids plus ovarian cysts.
My Dr gave me the option of having a D and C followed by the balloon therapy to cauterize the uterus. After a second ultrasound months later the cysts hadn't gone away and weren't decreasing in size so I opted for the hysterectomy since I was going to have surgery for the cysts anyway and this seemed like the best route for me.
I would definitely talk to another Dr.

Re: I am so frustrated and disappointed! I can't stop crying!
I was in the same place 2 years ago. I didn't want a hysterectomy at that time and found a fibroid specialist. He did an abdominal myomectomy and removed a huge fibroid. Things got so much better. However for my last 2 cycles, things have been back to where they were before. I was worried with my last cycle that the fibroids were back but after the weekend I've had with less than 3 weeks between periods, I'm ready to talk about something more permanent. I agree with the others that you need to get a second opinion. That's awful that the doctor is telling you they don't do anything for fibroids if you don't have cancer.

Re: I am so frustrated and disappointed! I can't stop crying!
You sound like you are in the same boat I was in. I had severe fibroids and bleeding non-stop for about 2 years. I would not bleed for about 2 days each month. I tried everything she wanted me to try and nothing helped. It took that long to go through all of the options! Finally, my DH went to her with me and told her that I just couldn't take it anymore. She scheduled the TAH then. She wanted to make sure there was nothing else she could do since I was still in "child bearing" years. She tied my tubes after my last baby so I was done with that anyway. She has done all of my surgeries and I understood that she wanted to try the options but sometimes they just don't work. I never had any cancer or even a need for a biopsy. I just didn't stop bleeding after my last birth until the hyster. I think you should get another opinion. You have to be able to trust your doc. I am lucky that I have her. She has been with me for 18 years and I know she will do what is best for me. Ask your friends/family who they recommend. You should never feel like an idiot. Your symptoms are very real! Good luck to you and I hope you feel better soon.

Re: I am so frustrated and disappointed! I can't stop crying!
I didn't even realize I had fibroids. I just kept compartmentalizing all the different symptons (horrible back pain, heavy bleeding, anemia, incontinence, bloating) and never thought they were related. I finally had an ultrasound and there were fibroids, so my gp sent my to a gyn and he said my only option was hysterectomy or keep suffering. I had my TAH 4 weeks ago and am glad it's done. My fibroids were grapefruit and orange sized and my uterus weighed 528 grams (supposed to weigh 50 grams),no wonder! Now just recovering, but other symptoms are gone! there was never a question of cancer, just large fibroids causing symptoms that made quality of life not good. My gyn said that ablation or fibroid myectomy was not an option due to their size.

Re: I am so frustrated and disappointed! I can't stop crying!
My first doctor (that I saw for the pain) told me to take 2 aleve!!! Didn't even offer an ultrasound. Turns out that terrible pain WAS adenomyosis, and that can't be "seen" through ultrasound (or MRI, for that matter). It's only diagnosed post-hyst. Find a new doctor and if I were you, I would look for one in your area well-versed in laparoscopic surgery (LSH). Mine was outpatient and I was back to work in under 10 days. Never felt better. If you live near Atlanta, I know a great doc!
Best of luck and keep insisting!!

I had a myomectomy in 2001 for the exact reasons you are describing. It worked for me. Looking back, I can't believe that I lived with my symptoms for as long as I did. I should have had treatment much sooner - constant severe bleeding is NOT normal!

Re: I am so frustrated and disappointed! I can't stop crying!
The most permanent remedy for uterine fibroids is hysterectomy, but if you want to have children, myomectomy works. In my reproductive years, I had an abdominal myomectomy and a vaginal myomectomy. They removed dozens of fibroids, and my pain and heavy bleeding went away for a few years. They eventually grew back which is why I opted for hysterectomy. I'm no expert, but Uterine Fibroid Embolization is also supposed to be good for fibroids. But no matter what, get a 2nd opinion! I had a GYN who said 'he didn't treat fibroids' and I suffered for a year before finding another doctor. Many OBGYNs are now fibroid savvy, so there's no reason to continue suffering!

Re: I am so frustrated and disappointed! I can't stop crying!
go to another doctor, try to get a doc that specializes in pelvic pain, I have endo and i see a spealist for it and he has helped me so much. he also treats bladder problems, fibroids, painful periods etc etc.. he is the best. if you think you may have endo get it seen into. I suffered for years with it and did not know I had it, it has caused alot of problems for me, I am now facing a hysto very soon, I went to several doctors and I finally found this one he is a life saver

funny, I could have posted this. You don't live in a more rural area do you? I do and had 2 yrs of pats on the back, RX for vicoden, (not something I wanted to get into the habit of taking) and now an additional 3yrs of bcpills, (3 different types) which make me nutty/ high blood pressure.
