Need advice

I am two weeks today and feel great. I got my son back yesterday and at night i am wore out and a little pain but not to much. I have been picking my son up every now and then when needed. To get to the toilet and chair but not holding him or anything. He is 34 pounds. Now I am terrified that I am internally bleeding becasue someone said I could do that and not even notice it if i picked up spmething too heavy. I had a hystercomty through the vagina so no outside stiches. Would I feel in real pain if I did do something? I am just a little nervous about it.

Hi,

Is there someone else who can help with your son. You definitely don't need to be lifting anything heavier than a gallon of milk for at least six weeks.

There is a real chance of injury if you're not careful. Internal suture can rip or adhesions could form. Please be careful and don't jeopardize your recovery. You only get one chance at a good recovery.

s,

Lisa

Becky,

Just like Shashi said... you don't need to / shouldn't be lifting ANYTHING more than a gallon of milk. You can do yourself a real disservice by doing so.

Your discharge instructions likely said no heavy lifting, your son included. Plain and simple, don't pick him up!

Take it easy!!!

Peaches,
I had a TAH on 1/19/05 and I have small children also. I was told by my dr. that I could lift my son (25 lbs) but try to limit how much I do it. I have been lifting him since 3 days post op with no problems. At the 2 week mark all my help around the house had left and when my husband was at work they were all mine. I started driving my Daughter to the bus stop which includes getting her in her car seat (she weighs about 50 lbs) and buckeling both kids in. (oooouch!) I havent had any major problems, mainly pain when lifting them.

Best of luck to you! Im pretty sure if you did any dammage you would definitly know it. Be sure to take it easy and take all the help you can get!!!!

I have a 42 pound 4 year old who (pre-op) I still lifted into chairs at time or into the car. We got a little Rubbermaid stool that I put near his chair, the toilet or the car so he can climb in by himself. I atill have to hold a hand now and then but he is really at the "I want to do it myself " stage so this little stool is working out well.

Just a thought.

I have found that I CAN do many things without pain..but am not sure I SHOULD be doing these things yet (almost two weeks pos-op with TAH). Ultimately it is up to you.

Blessings,
Beth

Is there someone else in the house who can help with your son? I know you probably feel like you can do anything, but there is a reason the doctor says no heavy lifting. Maybe someone could place him in your lap while you are seated. That way you could cuddle him without actually lifting him.

Thanks for all the replys. I called my doctor today and he said if I wasnt having any heavy bleeding and wasn't in pain that I could lift him occansionally. No carrying him around but it wont hurt if I lift him sometimes. Thanks for all the advice. Im thankful that he is home and I have made it two weeks. Only FOUR more to go and I should be good to go.

Glad to hear you are healing and doing well, I am also glad you have your son, I know from past posts that what scared you the most.
Having said that please be careful, It is easy to do to much when you feel better.

I hope you have some support and some one there to not only help with your son, but helpYOU.
