Incredible pain--can't take advil til after surgery

I've had to start my leave from work early because I simply cannot sit or stand upright for more than a few minutes at a time. At my pre-op yesterday, the hosp told me to stop taking advil until after my surgery, which is scheduled for next Tuesday. I've been taking advil four at a time, two to three times a day, for more than a year. The nurse said to take my migraine regimen minus the advil. That consists of darvocet and neurontin.

With no advil before bed, I woke up in pain but took two darvocets and a neurontin when I got to work. The pain got steadily worse. by 10:30 when I went to the dentist (which was correct this time), I clenched my teeth, growled, and told him I was having a hysterectomy next Tuesday so gas me up good! The gas helped while it was in my system, but it is gone within seconds after it stops.

The pain has not otherwise abated all day even though I haven't missed any darvocet or neurontin. I actually have had to start my leave today instead of Friday because I simply cannot hold myself up anymore.

I have solemnly charged my teenage girls to say a prayer of thanksgiving to God for advil every month for the rest of their menstrual lives.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

Oh my! You must be feeling horrible right now. My prayers are with you. Take care of yourself. Does a heating pad help any? My dr. told me today that if I needed anything for pain to call or stop by and he would be happy to perscribe me something.

I will pray for you!

I am so sorry you're in so much pain. I have a very good idea how you feel. I was on light duty because of pain my last 2 weeks before surgery and carried my heating pad in to work with me every night. If heat helps and you can't lay or sit, would those stick on heat thingies (not very technical, but you know what I mean) for cramps help at all? I think one brand lasts for several hours. My daughter swears by them.

Hang in there. You're getting so close to the better side.
Good luck.

Vicodin?

I was in terrible pain too. I tried codeine, but that didn't work. Now they have me on vicodin, and it has really really helped. I only take 2 a day when I need it -w hich is about 1/2 the time. It doesn't make me feel anything at all - no goofiness or anything.

I only got it after several of the sisters suggested it.

Good luck to you. I also had to stop the advil, etc.

I'm so sorry. I feel with you. Going through the same thing. Fortunately, it'll all be over for me tomorrow, but I'll be praying for you!

HI,
I sure can understand how you feel. I had to leave my job 2 weeks early because of pain. My surgery is Monday...AAAAAAHHHH....I am getting nervous. My doctor gave me percocet for the pain so that I couald make it until the big day. I actually tried to go to work for a few hours today because I thought that I felt so good. Now I realize why I felt so good...I wasn't on my feet while at home. Silly me.
Good luck. I hope that you feel better soon. We will both be on our way to a better life on less than a week!

Thanks so much, everybody. I do feel better just knowing someone cares! s

As gorggy as I feel, I still hurt. It has now migrated to my legs.

What's the old saying? 'When the well is dry, we know the worth of water'--or advil, as the case may be.
