Abdominal
its been about 12 weeks since my surgery and although I had a decent looking abdomin b/4 I can't seem to reach even close to that point. Am I kidding myself into thinking it can be as it once was or am I just impatient. Any exercise suggestions?? I feel like a big sag and at the end of the day I still get a little swollen.

I am at 3 1/2 weeks post op from and was wondering the same thing! My swelling is still prominent but not to a really bad degree. I am hoping to start running again this week.
I took Pilates before for quite awile and it made a really BIG difference with my abdomen so I am thinking I will go back to it as soon as I am cleared for it. You can check your local rec ctrs or health clubs or other places in your area that may offer it or there are some great DVD's or VHS available for at home use. The Windsor Pilates by Guthy Renker (sp?) is good....
I am also trying that Taumeel cream that I have seen other ladies on this site talk about for the swelling. Just bought some today so we'll see!
Good Luck!

I have not had surgery yet, but I am very proud of my tummy, after 2 kids (one C-section), I still have great abs, not from nature, but hard work - I do pilates also, and I run...
However...like you I am sooooo worried that my tummy will never look the same - what is this cream you are talking about????
Will the tummy binder help this or is that just to hold things together for the pain factor????
How long before they give you the go ahead for something like Pilates?????
Yikes just another thing to add to the list of worries!!!
I guess if having great abs is something I have to give up to get rid of the pain and bleeding then I am willing, but I am not going down without a fight!!!!

Hey Judy be careful running so early. I am 4 1/2 weeks postop. I am an avid runner. 6 1/2 miles 5-6x wk. My Dr. told me to wait 8 weeks there are a lot of potential complications. You don't want to have future surgeries! I am walking 3-4 miles 4-5x wk. But it makes me very sore. She also told me to hold off on the pilates until 8 wks. I have tried mild stretching but the next day I am very tender. Everyone keeps warning me about adhesions. So be careful. I am also worried about the droopy belly. They say it may be months before we'll know how we look. My incision feels like a hard knot under it. Anyone know if this is normal? Also is the abdominal tenderness? I had a bikini cut. Be careful girls, I have to keep telling myself this. Lynn

Hi there!
When I was on Percocet I felt like I could possibly run again at 3 weeks. That was 1 1/2 weeks ago. I'm 3 1/2 weeks right now and am so tired after just walking around the house that I can't imagine running so soon.
My Doc said walking only until he sees me at 6 wks. You don't want to hurt yourself!
Before my surgery I ran 7-10 miles 2x wk and mountain biked 2 times a week long distances (4-6hr rides). Also yoga 1x wk. It seems like it will be forever before I can do all that again at that level, but I don't want to mess things up.
I'm willing to wait longer if it means being able to exercise again that way.
Take care everyone!

Hi sisters
I was just reading through this post and wanted to add a little input here. I had my TAH May 7th. I had 4 c sections years ago. I felt so energized after my tah(was severly anemic before 5.5)I thought I could do whatever I wanted for some reason. My dr. had told me the restrictions, but I was having some bad anxiety and did things I shouldn't have. I did all the housework like I always had, worked in my flower gardens, etc. I ended up with depression because I felt so awful at 7 weeks.I took antidepressants for four months, but am fine now.
My abdoman still hurts today at almost 10 months. I just had rectocele and enterocele repair done.I still have a small cystocele. I guess I really did hurt myself doing too much too soon. I am thinking I pulled alot of stuff in my lower abdoman and pelvic area and it caused my pelvic floor to weaken even more than it was from the surgeries. When the pelvic floor weakens you really run the risk of having prolapses and you don't want to go there.
I just wanted to let you know that there is still alot of healing that needs to be done in there and you really do need to take it easy.I wish I could go back and redo my hyst and the recovery.
Hang in there. Your all clear won't be too far away.
Peggy
