Will I wake up with a catheter after my TLH?

I have 1 more question about TLH, will I wake up with a catheter in or will it be removed before I wake up? I'm asking because i had them left in with my other 2 abdominal surgeries for days and i absolutely hate the discomfort they cause, please tell me it will be removed before I wake up.

I had a TVH and since I didn't have any incisions, I didn't wake up with a catheter. The best person to give you the answer is your doctor and you should put that on your list of questions so you'll know what to expect.

They used a catheter for me, I'm glad they did. I didn't realize till I got home it's a little painful when you get home & go to the bathroom the next few days.

I woke up with my catheter and had it for 2 days. I personally was in no state to be trying to get up and go to the toilet. My bladder still feels battered and bruised because they had to push it out of the way.

Whilst you may not enjoy having one, it is likely you will need it. Short term discomfort for long term gain!

Hi Meeka, I had a TLH and the catheter was removed when I woke up. I've had several abdominal surgeries and the caths were removed before I woke up each time. Hope the same goes for you. I wish you the best.

I had to keep mine in overnight and even though I asked several times when they would take it out, I am glad I had it as I don't think I would have been able to get up (even with the nurses help) to go to the bathroom right away.

I woke up with it. But I was kind of glad because I really didn't feel like getting up to go to the bathroom. I just wanted to sleep. It was taken out early the next day. I had to go pee for them so I could go home.

This was one of the many question that I asked at my pre-op appt. My Dr said that it would not be inserted til after I was asleep, but it would still be in when I woke up. He said that depending on how the surgery went and how well I was recovering would determine how long it would remain in. I as many others are NOT a big fan of catheters and really don't want anything to do with it awake or asleep. It is best if you call your Dr and ask. I took 4 pages of questions that I felt that I needed to know. Some of them may have been silly, but I needed to know these things.

I had the LAVH and did wake up with a catheter. As much as I was dreading it, it turned out to be a good thing as I didn't have to get up to use the bathroom until I felt like it!
