Pull weeds?

I was thinking of pulling weeds after my surgery. I have a small flower bed along a fence. I thought after a few weeks I could just sit on the ground and pull weeds, not doing anything involving lugging or lifting.

Pull weeds?

I weeded my flowerbed..I couldn't take it anymore..I spent alot of money on the flowers this spring to sit n watch weeds take them over. I know I prolly looked dumb as all get out..but I'm the type of person who doesn't care what people think of her...so I laid on my side to pull out the weeds. And if they were too too hard, I called one of my kids. This saved me alot of pain and long term damage to myself, plus, it got the weeds out!

Pull weeds?

I tried this 2 or 3 weeks after and I paid for it for several days afterwards. The weeds were fairly easy to pull due to lots of rain the next day. I hated seeing them but wouldn't let others pull them because I was afraid that I wouldn't have any flowers or good stuff left! I did get them cleaned out this past weekend but it was hard to wait that long. BE CAREFUL...remember that you are using your stomach muscles to pull.

Pull weeds?

Well..... if it were me, I wouldn't do it. The problem (at least the problem I have, anyway) is that once I start, I never stop. I let my flowers go last fall. In fact, I never even cleaned anything out. This spring, it was just fine. Everything waited for me (plants are very patient that way).

Gardening is much more strenuous than you realize. So much bending and reaching..... and much more moving around if you're going to avoid too much bending and reaching.

I understand your frustration, but honestly -- your health is more important than a flower bed, however lovely it might be. Do you have a neighbor who might be willing to help you out in this way? Most neighborhoods have a few great gardeners and I would guess they'd be more than happy to work on your beds for you for a while.

Anyway, that's my for what it's worth.

Pull weeds?

After a few weeks, and with care you should be okay, but I agree with mjd about not being able to stop once you start. I got into a flowerbed just last week, and while I'm sure after so many weeks I didn't do any harm, I spent hours once I got started, and was a little sore afterwards from using those muscles again!

Pull weeds?

Thanks all. I wasn't gonna bend over or hoe. Just sit on my butt, which I do best.

Be patient

I asked my doctor this exact question: Can I pull weeds? She said "NO! Not for 6 weeks." FYI
