Heating pad usage?

Anyone know if it's safe to use a heating pad on my stomach area? i am getting cramping 5 days post daVinci hysterectomy (still have my ovaries) and when i have cramps nothing helps quite like heat. I don't want to mess anything up and getting ahold of my doctor is turning out to be near impossible.

Advice/thoughts/concerns would be much appreciated!

Re: Heating pad usage?

They gave me hot water bottles in the hospital- it felt divine! I've been using a heating pad since I got home and I had a LAVH last Monday.

Re: Heating pad usage?

The hospital gave me warmed blankets to use while there. After I was home, although I have a regular heating pad I never used it. The moist heating pad I purchased prior to my surgery (at some point I saw one recommended on here) was my best friend. It was wonderful for gas discomfort as well.

Re: Heating pad usage?

I didn't even think about asking...I'm 3 weeks post op today and have used my heating pad almost daily since my surgery. It feels good for my cramping. Feel better !!!!

Re: Heating pad usage?

I used my heating pad every single time I sat down. Had my DVH on 8/31 and even sometimes at night still, after a long day, I turn to it for some relief. It worked wonders for me.

Re: Heating pad usage?

I asked at the hospital hot or cold and they told me use the heating pad (my swelling isn't that bad) I sit with it and turn it on when I go to bed for a bit till I get sleepy. I can't imagine what I'd do without that thing!
