My back!!!

Why does my back hurt so much? I'm 2wks post op tomorrow, total LAVH keeping both healthy ovaries. I had a cystocele and rectocele repair and bladder sling. My lower back just aches and aches but moreso pain into the top of my buttocks around to my sides. I'm over it. I put it down to lying or sitting too much but I'm making sure I'm walking. I'm not overweight, have a fairly strong core pre op but this is really starting to drag me down

Re: My back!!!

Hello Ruth78. I'm sorry that I have no information or good advice for you!! But I have the exact same thing. My surgery was 12/5 and I feel like I'm healing ok- besides the constant tears and backache... I would love if someone can shed some light.

Re: My back!!!

That back pain might be from how you were moved around and/or positioned during surgery... But it if continues to bother, you should check with your dr.

Light stretching, heat or ice might help.

Re: My back!!!

I use a heating pad on mine a few times a day. I'm pretty sure mine is from laying around, I'm working on my posture now hoping that will help!

Re: My back!!!

I had LAVH Nov 19th. Like you, I am fit and slim. I had same thing. Was in hospital for 4 days (couldn't pee), and I complained about this to the doctor. They did say that you are tossed a round a lot on the surgery table and as you know they are narrow and hard, also everyone complains about hospital beds giving them backaches. I chalked it up to this and too much sitting and lying around, and like you I have been walking everyday since day 7.

In my second week post op I did discover I had a UTI infection, however did not get the normal signs - burning etc until late into the infection. Doctor did tell me that these can be masked by pain killers and chalking it up to surgery pain, and as we get older you don't always get the usual signs immediately. Backache can be a sign and I lit that stick up when they tested me, so immediately got on antibiotics to clear it up.

Much better now and back much less painful. This may not be your issue, however do not let it go and maybe ask to be checked for a UTI if it continues. Better safe than sorry!

My recovery has been great so far otherwise. Best of luck !

Re: My back!!!

I'm 9 days Post Op... and I woke up this morning with my back aching to the point I took an 800mg Ibuprofen and I'm using a heating pad. I haven't had to take any meds since Day 5. I hear back pain is very normal in the recovery process. You are not weak... your in recovery! Lol! I have to remind myself of that everyday.

Be Blessed,
Carla
