Impact of Hysterectomy at 35

Hi Fellow Sisters,
This is my first post to this list and any and all help is really appreciated.

I am 35 years old and have had a myomectomy and two hysteroscopies in the last 3 years. My last ultrasound showed about 10 fibroids and my entire lining is studded with multiple small fibroids.
My doctors have recommended a laparascopic hysterectomy.

- Can anyone provide additional information or share your personal experience of having a laparascopic hysterectomy in your mid 30s?
In particular, I am looking for anything you may have felt post-op, after the recovery period related to emotional or unexpected physical issues .

Thanks!

Re: Impact of Hysterectomy at 35

I am 28 years old and tomorrow will be 2 weeks post op for me. The recovery for me physically has been no problem. I was never on pain meds and have been feeling really good.

Now emotionally I've been a roller coaster for about the last 10 months. I was scheduled for this surgery last summer and postponed it. It all came back to the certainty of never having more children that kept me delaying. Even though we weren't planning on having more, it was such an emotional decision. Even yesterday I was at the doctor with my 3 boys scheduling surgery for all 3 of them and the nurse asked me if I was going to go one more time for a little girl. I know people don't know any better but my response was "nope, I'd have to have a uterus to do that!" she was shocked and dropped it after that.

I will tell you though that it is an adjustment emotionally but I am content in my decision because it's made my quality of life so much better for my family and that's what I'm focused on now. I feel better now only 2 weeks post op than I have in years and that makes me excited to know that nothing is holding me back anymore!!

Good luck to you! Many prayers for a speedy recovery physically and emotionally for you!

Re: Impact of Hysterectomy at 35

Hi! I am 37 and had my Lavh/Bso three months ago. I had it due to Adenomyosis and a rare uterine infection. My recovery went better then I ever could have expected! I did have to come home with a cather for eleven days due to my Dr nicked my bladder. That was the worst part. After the cather was taken out i started to feel much better. Was walking almost three miles by week three and at week four I asked Dr if i could start using elipitcal. I did,but only for ten minutes then gradually increased. I work in nursing so didn't go back to work till week eight. I was wiped out the first week, but now at three months I feel better then I ever have! So glad i had my surgery. I am on Hrt-Vivelle dot .25 which is the losest dose to help with menopause since i had both overies removed. I haven't had any emotional symptoms at all. I'm an emotional person to begin with so no change. I have had some hot flashes, but nothing unbearable and some night sweats, but again nothing i an't stand. Nice thing about being on losest dose is i can always go up. I wish you the best of luck!!

Thank you for this response. I just turned 35 two days ago and am having an LAVH/Bso next Thursday. I too am worried about what to expect. Stories like yours give me a lot of hope for an uneventful and speedy recovery. Thank you!

What she said.

I'm 37 and am having the abdominal-type on Monday. (sorry just got here...don't have my acronyms down yet) Not sure yet if I am having both ovaries removed or just one. But this thread is making me feel a lot better about the whole thing.
