12 days post hysterectomy: Holiday Prep
Hi all, Had TAH on 11/24. Struggling with getting things done for the holidays. Walking ok but just helping with decorations last night (finally) gave me swelly belly and pain. Not close to done with shopping and afraid wrapping is going to be daunting. Any one else overwhelmed with holiday prep and frustrated?

Re: Holiday Prep
Right now I think that the most important thing for you to remember is to listen to your body and to remember that you only get one chance to heal right the first time. If you can get someone to do your shopping for you, it would be better for you. It is very easy to get caught up in all the things associated with the holiday. Recovery from this surgery is very exhausting for some. So I would suggest that you delegate as much as possible and please be careful to limit the bending, pulling, pushing and lifting. You have a lot of healing to do.

I agree that it is good to delegate as much as possible. Also, if you buy gifts anywhere that offers free wrapping take advantage. If you have to get those gifts wrapped and no one can help, gift bags are your friend and come in tons of sizes! You can go back to pretty packages with ribbons next year.

Thank you for the reminders. It's hard to let go when you are of the "superwoman" variety. ❤️

Ok Superwoman I challenge you to hang of your cape for just a little while. You'll be amazed what others will do when they have no choice, because as long as you do everything, no one else will.

I hear you! Went Christmas shopping at the mall today with hubby. Walked half the mall, stopped for lunch, walked back, let him bring the car to the doors and came home. Whewph!! I have already decided the pretty bags the stores give you are perfect wrapping, I picked up some nice Christmas tissue paper to stuff them, it doesn't match but this year it will do. I am going to ply one of my sisters with wine and have them come and help bake ands wrap!! Plus it will entertain me

Re: Holiday Prep
Maushaus,
When Christmas Day rolls around, you'll only be a month post op... It's overly ambitious to have all your regular Christmas decorating, baking, shopping, etc done this year. It's just too much. Pick the few things that are most important to you and delegate or ask for help. Maybe everyone will get gift cards this year! As for wrapping I have two words for you: gift bags!!
Your gift to your family and yourself this year is taking care of yourself

Re: Holiday Prep
I am feeling this frustration with you tonight, Maushaus. Have you been able to shop online at all?
I had hoped to get the tree up before surgery since I knew I would not have any volunteers. No luck with that. I knew going into this recovery period that I would have to let things go, but Christmas fun is harder to let go of than normal chores, lol.
My son was so sweet and did hang some lights outside without even being asked and I am loving them. I am just really missing having our tree up. The totes of ornaments and Christmas decorations are still sitting in the living room calling my name!
I decided I wasn't going to add anything extra (like the Christmas prep) to my load until the spotting stops, but it hasn't stopped yet. ugh. So all I get to do is dishes, laundry and necessities...all with lots of rest in between my tasks. What I really want to do is decorate for Christmas, bake and do some more shopping, and gift wrapping.
Some days this waiting for healing is harder than others! Thanks for letting me cry on your shoulders. Hope you are able to get back to things you love soon!

Re: 12 days post hysterectomy: Holiday Prep
Merry Christmas all! It's two days away. I'm lying here with my heating pad. Almost ready and exhausted. But looking forward to family and friends. Tried to do a little bit every day. And way too much by myself yesterday. Hope you all are doing well! ❤️
