21 days Post hysterectomy, Brown discharge and Cramps similar to period cramps. Is this Normal?
Hi Ladies!
I'm trying to be upbeat and happy sounding, but I'm having some new things going on that I'm a bit concerned about. I have called my Dr, but have yet to get a call back, so I came here.... Tuesday I started having some light pink discharge and a cramping, stabbing type pain where my uterus used to be. My ovaries, tubes, uterus and cervix are gone, but that is the closest thing I can compare the pain to. Yesterday, pink stuff in the morning, then as the day went on, it became a brown discharge. (I can't believe I'm putting this out here!) Today, it's still brown, but much thicker, and the cramping type pain is worse... Have any of yall experienced this? There is no fever, thank the Lord! But I still feel kind of lost... and alone

Re: 21 days Post hysterectomy, Brown discharge and Cramps similar to period cramps. Is this Normal?
There's no such thing as TMI where our health is concerned... and screen names help with that .
Yes, both are normal. Around the 3rd or 4th week, your vaginal stitches may start to dissolve and that can come with a spotting, and color may vary depending on the type of healing going on. Generally, if you're not soaking a pad in an hour, it's usually nothing to be concerned about (if you are soaking a pad in an hour, it's an emergency which warrants a call to your doc). Here's more on Spotting vs. Bleeding.
The cramps, I'd describe as "phantom uterine cramps" and others have talked of the same. For those who retained their ovaries it could be ovulation, but this seems common across the board with or without ovaries. It helps to understand healing. We tend to view healing as the scar tissue which first formed getting stronger over time, but that's not the case at all. Instead, earlier scar tissue gets replaced throughout healing by newer scar tissue, and the earlier stuff dissolves. That's when we're likely to feel twinges and zingers. Also, if we've stepped our our activities, our internal incisions might rebel a bit. I experienced that a number of times - once at 8 weeks when I bleached the porch with a garden hose sprayer balanced on a ladder, and just about a month ago after doing a rather intense abs routine.
So, continue to take rest breaks, stick with restrictions even if you're feeling great, and listen to your body for clues that you might be doing too much for where you are in your healing timeline.

I experienced the same. My discharge was from about 2-4 weeks. I am 6 1/2 weeks out now and haven't had any. I still feel cramps from time to time.
