Keep ovaries or not?

Hello all,
I am new and I am gettng a laprorsocpic suprecervial hysterectomy next week becuase of numerous internal fiboieds and one large one the size of an orange on the back of my pelvis near my lumbar sacral plexues. I have ben suffering from nerve pain udendal for 3 years and have been quite succesful in treatments but not cured yet, and my periods make this pain worse so it coudl be my large fibroid and thehest way for me to know after 3 years is to get these dammed fibroids out. I am getting this done next wek but cannot decide on the ovaries as who knows this can be contributing to my pain hormonal maybe....I have one ovary with 2 cysts adn the other has a follicle...but i am scared of HRT and breast cancer to what i will go through witout my ovaries but they could be aibg part of my pain for all I know...........what do I do...I am scared do I or don't I? I am 48years old...............help-------------pelvic painer

Keep ovaries or not?

I'm facing this decision too, but in a different way. While no one can decide for you, I can tell you that with my family history, I'm going to fight for my ovaries on Tuesday at my pre-op. I was so bewildered and shocked when this whole thing came down, I didn't question my doc enough when he said he'd be taking the ovaries too.

Educate yourself on why take them, why leave them. Take some time, as corny as it sounds, and think deep into your body. See if you can "find" your ovaries and hold them in your thoughts for awhile. Your body may be able to tell you more than you think.

I'm afraid of the hormonal mess I've been for the last three years, and afraid my ovaries might be contributing too, tho I don't have cysts or follicles. Just fibroids and perpetual ASCUS paps. My doc says hormone balance afterward is easier without them. But isn't that easier for HIM and not me? Isn't it going to take awhile to get it right either way? Hmmmm...

There are a zillion questions like that, so don't be afraid to ask them. Take your time. Think it through. You and your body know better than anyone else what is right. You just have to block out the "noise" and listen for a bit.

Above all, stay as calm as you can. There's still a little time and you can use it to really find out what's right for you. If your doc isn't giving you the answers you need, the internet can be of great help, and you might just want a second opinion.

It's never too late until it's done.

I'll be thinking of you! Looks like we may be in post op together too, so I'll watch for you.

Hang in there!
