Very anxious about June 2 and beyond

Hello all
I will go for TVH and BSO on June 2. I am also having a lumpectomy for DCIS. Needless to say there's alot on my plate!

I was using birth control pills to manage hot flashes. Turns out I was at the start of menopause (no period now since November). I had to stop all hormones because the DCIS is estrogen positive. I started hot flashes two weeks after going off hormones in late March. They have subsided somewhat now. I will not be able to ever take hormones so I have HUGE anxiety about the aftermath of no ovaries. Maybe it won't be much of a difference since the ovaries are shutting down anyway.

I don't know what to expect in recovery, but I am in great shape now. I have always exercised regularly, but since finding out about this surgery, I have been working out almost 6 days a week in preparation for it.

I have a trip planned for 5 1/2 weeks from my surgery date. This is not a vacation but professional. It is 4.5 day workshop and I will be sitting most of the time. I am concerned about fatigue and other issues that may come up post-op. My doctor has said I can travel but have to follow restrictions (no lifting, etc).

Anyone else travel for work after a TVH/BSO?

Re: Very anxious about June 2 and beyond

Although I didn't travel, I was back to a pretty heavy job, full time, at 5 wks. I was tired after 12 hour shifts but it was OK and I had felt fine for weeks. On hormones----i was post menopausal but did see a difference with the BSO, hot flashes yes, but mental fog was new. Just wait and see how that goes, because they didn't expect I'd notice much difference and you may not. Good luck with your surgery and recovery.
