Partial or complete or radical?????

I guess I was unprepared when I saw my doctor. I had no idea that there were more then one types done. I just was told KEEP YOUR OVARIES, by fellow coworkers?

Why?

With abnormal bleed as the reason, can I?

What kind will I be likely to have?

Any guess out there?

I do have family that have had hysterectomies done but you do not talk about it !!!!

So some help would be great!!!

Partial or complete or radical?????

Hi Heidi,

I guess the best place to start is in discussions with your Dr. and determine which type of hyst you are the best candidate for.

Here is H.S. link that goes over the different types of hysts. Just scroll down.

It sounds like your Dr. recommended you keep your ovaries since they are healthy and you are a younger person. I was 46 at the time of my hyst and I decided to keep my ovaries since I too was a candidate. I read on H.S. that the ovaries secrete hormones that help with the bones, skin and hair.

Not to mention, if ovaries are removed during a hyst, it is called surgical menopause. Then, ladies opt to possibly go on HRT or an alternative method to help with menopausel symptoms.

I can suggest do your research and this site is a good place to start!!

Best wishes,

Mary

Partial or complete or radical?????

Hi Heidi,

I just noticed your co-workers recommended ythat you keep your ovaries. I apologize for mis-reading it. Sounds like you have started discussions with your Dr. also.

You will find many ladies on Hyster Sisters who have valuable information about the ovaries. Hope they post for you!!

Partial or complete or radical?????

Hi there Heidi.

The type of hyster you have depends on your condition, why you're having the hyster and what procedures your doctor is well versed in. It's great that you're taking steps to inform yourself before going through this.

Did your doctor talk about alternatives to a hyster? If your only problem is bleeding, some women find relief from ablation - it means that you can't have kids but you do get to keep your uterus and there are far fewer side effects.

Most women opt for the most conservative, least invasive surgery they can, as it's easier on the body. Talk to your doctor about whether you're a candidate for a laproscopic procedure. HistoryLady gave you some great starting places for getting up to speed.

As for ovaries, if your complaint is with your uterus and you have no history of endo, pcos or any genetic markers for ovarian/breast cancer you should definitely opt for keeping them. You're young and need those hormones to keep you that way. No HRT can adequately replace your natural hormones that protect your heart, circulatory system, bones, bladder, vagina, sex drive, teeth, hair, skin and overall sense of self.

I hope we can help you talk about all the issues you're facing now.

Take care.
