pre op

I'm new to this and haven't quite got the hang of it. I am scheduled for my surgery on jan. 4th. I was getting a cold and called the doc. they gave me antibiotics. I am feeling better but still have the cough. do you think they will go ahead with the surgery. really don't want to postpone it.

Re: pre op

Mat, some hospitals put a binder on after the surgery- that is what I foudn when i woke up. You should also check postings on what to bring to the hospital- though i want to add a personal bit of advice. When I woke up in my room after the surgery- I have no memory of anything from the time I was wheeled into the OR until 7 hours later- my husband was there with my bag. It was late, poor hubby was so tired, and he had a 40 mile trip home, so I urged him to go home, saying I was fine. The only problem was my overnight bag was on the floor, and I couldn't bend or lift. Got the nurse to help me. Just sayin'

Re: pre op

I had a cold while I was at the Castle. I had to pretty much sleep siting up because the post-nasal drip caused coughing, which really hurt. OTOH, they made me do deep breathing and coughing anyway.

When I got home, I had another cold (there was one day that I wasn't sick in between so I'm pretty sure it was two colds)... so I still had to sleep sitting up.

I don't know if that hampered my recovery or not, but I'm doing OK and my surgeon is pleased with my recovery so far.

God's blessings and good luck!
