Update: Working post op

I finally just decided to handle things myself (instead of waiting for manager) and called HR & payroll myself yesterday. Turns out I am covered 100% for 2 months. I just have to have my Dr. fill out disability form. I asked, why are they asking me how many hrs I will be working from home then? Are you going to pay me on top of the 100%? (of course, I knew the answer to that, but didn't understand). She said, I have no idea. You are getting 100% of your pay whether you do anything during your recovery or not. If you decide to do any work at all, it is to the benefit of the company.

Whew - was very happy to hear that. That's one less thing I have to worry about. Now if I could only sleep through one night

Thanks all for your help!

What good news!

Angela,

That is such good news! Now you can relax and recuperate at your own rate! You'll be surprised how fast two months go by - I just passed the two month mark myself. I wish everybody had the benefits you have!

That is GREAT news. Now just remember, after the surgery when you do speak to your office...practice your "weak and exhausted" voice. "Oh no, you didn't wake me...I was just lying here waiting for my next pain medication..." etc. etc.

If you show them any strength at all they immediately expect you to start doing stuff for them.

And I am following the advise of another sister...DO NOT plan on visiting your office during your recovery. They automatically think if you're well enough to visit, you might just take care of a couple of small items.....

Enjoy your hard earned recovery time. They'll manage fine without you, and you will heal the way you should!!

Karen (typing this from the swooning couch...)

What a blessing to be covered 100% for all 8 weeks!! I'm sooooo glad you won't have to be tempted to return to work early.........you deserve a thorough recovery!

When they call and you use your "weak and exhuasted voice", be sure to have the TV sound turned "off" and make sure the crinkly wrapper from the 3# box of Godiva chocolates isn't making any noise that they can hear over the phone wires........gosh, but office staff can hear that chocolate-paper noise from at least 5 miles away!
