Got the go ahead for hysterectomy

Hi all,
Well yesterday without any hesitation at all, my doc agreed I need a hysterectomy. So relieved not to have to justify it. Hormones are not working and actually making bleeding/cramps and mood worse. The bleeding is excessive and constant. Can't take pain meds due to meds I am on.
However she reassured me that they could work with that drug for surgery and I shouldn't be off it long(12 hours) enough to fall into depression. Maybe get the spins from sudden withdrawal but she says she has heavy anti-vertigo drugs to help that. Just to list what happens with this drug mixed with other and then they will be very judicious in choices of narcotics. She reassured me my gynie can handle all these issues. So she eased my main concerns.
She would like to see me get an abdominal hysterectomy with cervix taken and ovaries kept. I agree with that. I want a good look at all my parts. She is of the opinion why keep the cervix if it doesn't serve a purpose and could serve as a place for future cancer? She talked about latest reports that hysterectomy does not = bladder incontinece. BUT she said the * to this is that if you already have any incontinence N-O-W, it MUST be told to the gynie/surgeon because that could be made worse with the surgery. When they know in advance they can tack it and tighten it (or whatever). She explained why with alot of medical lingo. So OK thats a good TIP. SO tell your surgeons if you have any drips ladies! They have to know to deal with it beforehand!
She said I made a very"good" and "wise" decision and looked relieved and surprised that I was already at the same conclusion as her.
She does not like ablations. Too ineffective, too many failures, doesn't last, etc. I am so glad I researched this site and the ablation site.
I cannot have more kids due to severe and medically unmanagable post partum depression I experienced for 5 years-so she was very glad to take that risk away. She agreed next time it would be even worse and that would probably mean death. I am glad to take that chance of a nightmare away even though it took a long time to get to this point. Head knew it, heart had to catch up!
She said my gynie is excellent and does a very "slick" abd. hysterectomy. She was obviously impressed by her patients operated on by him.
So hopefully my hormones will be ok afterwards so my moods stay stable.
You know it was strange ladies. I was so scared but when she automatically agreed and encouraged this decision I felt elated. Great relief. I think I was whooping down the street afterwards(seriously). Which is sort of odd, but I know it reflects how much my daily life has been diminished. Obviously the right decision was made. Besides the obvious discomfort, etc, my little daughter was starting to always say she didn't feel well or hurt-and she'd point to places she has seen me rub or overheard me talking to my hubby about. This mimicking really opened my eyes to how MUCH this was affecting me and the family! I know I don't say just how bad it is most of the time and still it was very obvious. And to think how often in the last 6 months I have had to put my daughter off playing , etc, because I was feeling so unwell-it made me feel sad BUT determined!
My family and hubby(and hubby's family) are very supportive. They saw the need too. Hubby is making plans to pamper me. He says no matter what it costs, he will arrange full time childcare, whatever, so I get 8 weeks of good rest!
Gotta love him. He's a darling man. And believe me he will DOTE! LOL
He happily was planning for a vasectomy so I guess thats unnecessary now. So yeah, maybe he'll be thanking me for that subconsciously too!
Ok I am having way too much fun with these smiley icons!
So I was ecstatic, then a little scared last night. I guess I am on the roller coaster of emotions with all the rest of you ladies!
I'll let you know when I get a date from my gynie consult. I was in too see him recently and he was open to this option.
I pray for a good experience through this and for my future in this body. I can't wait to get on with feeling well. I have plans for down the road. Changing 3 diapers in an hour for months at a time is not part of them!!!!
Yeah!

70'sChick. You sound wonderfully elated! I am so happy for you! Like you, I was ecstatic when told that I was finally getting a hyster and that all going well, I will feel like a new person! Having read many forum threads here, I have no doubts that I will feel great. Even the Princesses that have just made it home from the castle are thrilled with the results. Like you, I have a doting husband and 17yo son still at home that adores and is great at looking after me. I have 7 days to go and counting minutes (sheep just aren't around) and even today my hubby bought me home a gorgeous bouquet of gerbera's. He didn't even know that I had vomitting & runs all day and the start of my main period bleed. Let us know as soon as you have your surgery date and I look forward to catching you around the site.

Shell XXX (no smilies today, feel like crap due to 15min tampon AND pad changes).

PS. Start making a list of pamper products you can buy when you no longer have to purchase sanitary wear.

Chick, sounds like your head and heart are where they should be! Your health is so important! Your doc sounds like mine doc in so many ways! I love my doc, and I know he wouldn't steer me wrong.

I am so glad I had my hyster. I feel better even though I have the healing aches and pains. It is really a good decision, you will be so glad when it is all over!!
